I don't like seeing any of what we're going through just like 99% of the rest of this board, but when you see this kinda thing and then read Rocky Bleier is pissed too, something is BAD wrong. There's just no way to sugarcoat it.

I think you can still have an intense practice without beating each others brains out.

You don't need to beat each others brains out but if you can't actually practice tackling, how are you going to improve? That isn't something you can just wish will happen the next week and it happens. If they can't actually tackle another player, they need to come up with a legit way to practice it or they won't improve. What you get coming out of camp is what you will have all season.

Can they even have an intense practice anymore? The players association has so many rules on what they can and can't do, practices are nothing compared to what they used to be. They aren't even allowed to have full tackling anymore. I read about that a couple of weeks ago. All they can do is be cognizant of tackling better during games because they can't actually practice it during the season. That kind of stuff is ridiculous. If you don't practice it, you won't get better.

Well, all teams have to practice under the same rules. Seems that there are plenty of teams that manage to practice with an attention to detail that translates to production on the field and *gasp* consistency that leads to winning. The Steelers lost that somewhere along the way. It can be argued as to why, but in truth it doesn't matter.

The only way to correct it is through new leadership (coaching). Tomlin does things a certain way and has for a number of years, perhaps his entire tenure as Steelers HC. If he tries to get all hard now and be a disciplinarian, he'll lose the team for sure, if he hasn't already. They will rebel because they don't want Darth Vader tactics from Mr. Rogers.

Maybe if he were playing better, people might be more willing to listen to him talk about what other people should be doing.

Especially considering that he followed up two 30+ yard catches, with back breaking penalties IMMEDIATELY afterwards.

This is all true. But this isn't a unique problem to the Steelers. It's the rest of the things you can do in practice where they're falling short.

I love Ben, but I would not be a bit surprised if Ben doesn't prefer him a bit of a "mellow practice".

On the other hand, word is he freaked out on AB when he was running the wrong routes in practice a few years ago, so who the **** knows.

Ben is also one of the biggest competitors there is. He wants to win.

Strange thing is, they complained about how strict he was and how hard he pushed them through practice that they felt depleted by season's end in the beginning.

While I believe that, I wish he'd practice Wednesdays (can't say I follow too much lately to know if he does or not) to affirm that will to win. Especially with a new OL, new OL coach, new OC and a group of young & fairly raw WR corp. Oh, not to mention a new RB.

Speaking of tennis, I just watched a video from one of the top tennis coaches and he emphasized going for each ball even if you aren't going to get to it. By doing so, one day you will get there. This speaks to what Minkah is saying about practicing faster. They can practice with more intensity with their reps rather than just going through the motions. Focus on details and correct small mistakes. It's why guys like Heyward and Watt dominate their competition and others struggle each week.

It became so obvious about practice when you watch other teams play. When players admit this, you wonder why they are on the team but look who the head coach is and how he handled players in the past. First an article that Butler is not involved and has not been calling plays so none of this should be a surprise. You have to ask what ownership is not seeing

I'm just glad he's putting it out on TV what I've been bitching about for awhile.If he is seeing it,so are A LOT of people.

Like I've stated in another thread. They don't have real leadership right now. A guy or several men taking ownership of their defense or offense and demanding a certain standard or take your ******* *** to the bench.

The only thing Pittsburgh Steeler about these guys are the colors.

Ryan Clark is definitely on my short list of former players I'd like to shake their hands and say thanks. Buy them a beer if they drink.

It means something to them just like it means something to us.

Excellent post(s) jiminoh and both those videos are spot on.

Worried about music at practice, can't grind a tackle, can't so many thin coaching 101 it's pathetic.

Players need to MAN up and Coaches need to COACH up.

Who is to blame, all of them both players and coaches but most falls to coaching. They are the final say as to who rules.

Rooney has a problem and the more public it becomes the more there is a chance of change.

My thought would be to say to Art II, "Hey man. You're going to die sooner than later. Age has a way of catching up to you. Your grandfather won some SBs. Your dad won some SBs. Are you gonna be ok being the first Rooney that flat out ******* blew?"

Like I said, he's turning into Bob Nutting. Whether the team wins or loses is a secondary consideration. His idea of winning is putting money in the bank.
Team could go 0-17 forever and Tomlin will never be fired as long as he is under contract. Most they will do is come to an agreement that he will retire.
The Rooneys will never fire their Rooney Rule hire, no matter what.
It'll be telling after the season if they keep Butler. Canada sucks too but if they want to see how he does next year with a different QB I get that.
if Butler comes back then it's obvious that ownership doesn't care as much as they did when they let The Bruce and DLB walk.
