Anyone know yet the terms?

Not positive yet but heard it's a one-year show us what you've got deal. Also just read he hasn't played an entire season (due to injury of course) since 2016 or something (don't quote me on that).

Yeah, he only played 13 games in each season from 2017 to 2019 and only played in 9 games last year. Of course, he was a Pro Bowl caliber player each year from 2015 to 2019 even after missing time in 3 of those seasons. Hope he's healthy and ready to go.

So we upgraded?

The Steelers did about as well as they could have replacing DeCastro in the picked over free agent market. Going back to the draft, fully expecting this to be DeCastro's last year (who knew it wouldn't play out), I really wanted the Steelers to use a day 3 pick on Trey Smith. Talent wise, he was one of the top IOL in the entire draft and only fell due to some medical red flags.

After his surgery, if he is feeling good enough to play again, I wonder if the Steelers will resign DeCastro or if he will go to the highest bidder.

Good observation. Maybe he takes the year off to get fully healthy and they sign him back next year when they have bundles of cap space. Could be a gentleman's agreement there. Turner is only signed to a one year deal.

Highest bidder I’m sure.

NOT sure if getting decastro back would be the direction the STEELERS will want to go. I bet they HIGH draft pick OL this upcoming draft.

Will be hard to find a QB picking 32 but OL could easily be there.

Interesting. Just read from DK that when the Steelers initially brought in Turner, it had nothing to do with DD. They brought Turner in because Big Dot wasn't taking his conditioning seriously enough and they were thinking of having Turner come in to take DOTSON'S spot.

"I'm told, by an impeccable source, that the initial motivation for summoning Turner was a general dissatisfaction among the coaching staff with the offseason regimen of young Kevin Dotson and that, as a result, there was a very real worry that he'd be a viable candidate to start at left guard. ... But Dotson, apparently, could -- and did -- wait to take his offseason seriously, in the eyes of management. I wasn't told any specifics, other than that it had to do with conditioning. And that management, with all the other uncertainty on the offensive line, was in no mood to wait for Dotson to get set straight."

Big Dot it seems was taking his spot for granted and not putting in the work to be his best. The Steelers bringing in Turner the first time was a shot across the bow to wake Dotson up and let him know that nothing is a lock for him.

Thanks SteelBuckeye,

WoW on Big Dot...... What do these guys think or have rattling around in their heads ??? There are 10 guys just as good as you that didn't get this opportunity that you have in front of you. I know he is young but he needs to play / work / attitude that you can't take this from me and I'll work my azZ off to keep it.

I wonder if this current Coaching / player / CBA allows the running conditioning drills that Cowher use to use?

As I recall, and I might be mistaken, but Cowher didn't have specific conditioning drills when they arrived at camp. He ran a conditioning test that if you failed, you didn't participate in camp drills until you had run yourself into good enough condition to pass. It kind of became an annual thing to see Casey Hampton running laps around the practice field because he hadn't passed the conditioning test.
I think the idea was and is that you are grown men, professional football players, if you can't/won't take your off season conditioning serious enough, we're not going to have you ******* up our drills and we're not looking at you as someone we can rely on to give your best effort during the season. Now, obviously, with Big Snack, there was a little leeway as they knew he was going to give them his best on every play. But, they still made him run the test and run the laps until he could pass the test.

Between the team/Colbert's statement and DeCastro's interviews, the two sides seemed to have mutually parted ways. Just the fact that concerns over his ankle ever feeling 100% to play football again and that retirement has popped up is a good indicator it's probably time for DeCastro to hang 'em up. Once that is in the back of your mind it's tough to fully commit to such a demanding sport.

As far as Dotson goes, disappointing if the staff is concerned over his conditioning. Maybe after his rookie year and all of the hype he got as the backup stepping in had him feeling confident. It's not like the team made any serious investments in improving the OL for this year. Instead, it's a bunch of unproven options with a scheme, coach, 3rd-round rookie, a guy coming back from a major knee injury, and their worst OL shifting to maybe the most important position.

Was Coach your source???

we won 2008 with this OL
Starks
Kemoeatu lousy in pass protection and just badly out of shape
Hartwig decent vet
Stapelton undersized UDFA
Colon
D fence carried the team and at times the run game was average and at times the pass protection is questionable
