Steelers looking at James Campen for O_line position

Eh ... 6 years in the league, 8 years as an OL coach at the college level, a couple of years as an assistant OL coach at the NFL level. This guy has at least paid his dues to get here; unlike the last guy.
I guess. Just wish that Oline coaching experience was a little bit lengthier. And then there is what did they see last year that made them think he was capable?

Might have something to do with his familiarity with the type of blocking that they will need for a motion heavy offense. Klemm played for, and coached with June Jones. Run & Gun Baby!!
Maybe he brought some of those ideas to the table last year and was vetoed by Sarrett. Hell, I don't know ... He's here now. I wish him nothing but All-Pros

Yeah I saw the June Jones on his resume. We'll see our OLine needs someone who can get the run blocking above the line. He also had some injury lawsuit question marks? I take it that must have been bullshit on the players part?

Didn't know anything about the injury lawsuit stuff. But, I doubt it would have an effect of how good of a coach he is/can be at this level.

It was against him and June Jones in reference to some players injuries. Wasn't implying it would impact his resume. But if there is some character concerns you want to think twice. I took it as the claims were bullshit..

I wanted any capable person other than Sarrett, so bring him on and let's see what he can do.

So did Klemm just stand on the sideline and watch Sarrett coach? I’d find it hard to believe that he had no say in technique and critiquing of the players. My point is, I don’t see how anything changes with the OL.

We have the lowest paid assistants in the NFL. You get what you pay for .

what I really hope is that we are seeing with these hires, that they are promotions within the org and no big splashes to overhaul the schemes or philosophy. This will be Ben's last year and maybe it's Colbert, Butler and Tomlin's last one, as well. Who knows what happens when 2022 A.B.(After Ben) happens, The possible new regime would have a clean slate to build upon. (That's my wish and I'm sticking to it, until it doesn't happen.)

. When Sarrett took over, the guy the Steelers brought in as an assistant OL coach did pretty much what you said. He got pieces of equipment to move and seemed to stand there and watch. Hopefully that changed over time, but never saw an offensive line practice session run like that in previous years.

And this is who the Steelers just promoted!

We won't see if there's a change until the season starts.
Having "a say" in technique and critique is not the same as having the "final" say.
Suppose Klemm offered his opinion on technique/critique while he was the assistant and Sarrett said "No, that's not how I want it taught" ...What's the likely outcome?
Sarrett had the final say. That's why he's no longer here.
In my opinion, and only my opinion, it's fair to question the hire; but not fair to question Klemm's performance as the OL Coach.
Kinda hard to critique his performance as the OL Coach before he has an actual chance to perform as the OL Coach.

I genuinely hope that was the case. I hope Klemm didn't have much input into many of the schemes or developing the OL. That would give me more hope.

According to Trai Essex, during the week, Klemm would have focused on training Rookies (and presumably non-starters). Sarrrett would have been responsible for preparing (or not) the starters for the game. So, one could assume that Klemm was responsible for Dotson's preparedness when called on to start.

If that be the case that definitely gives me more hope in what the guy can potentially accomplish.

Could care less. The only question I have is "can he coach?". If the answer is yes, great. If not, don't wait two years to fire his ***.

His teams got worse each year at running the ball at UCLA .Started at 34th in the nation and the last 2 years were 60th and then 127th. He is a bum.

OK, so, teams getting worse every year at running the ball means you're a **** OL coach. Yet, you say Munchak was the best coach we've had. Go look up the Steelers team ranks as far as rushing during Munchak's time here. His teams got worse each year at running the ball. Culminating in a 31st ranked rushing attack in 2018. Was Munch a **** coach. The answer is no.

I take Munchak over an unproven hack every day of the year . Especially an unproven bum who was fired from his college job for cheating and poor Oline play and was out of football before the Steelers came calling and he was an assistant to the worst Oline coach in the NFL.

Munchak is the best OLine coach in the league and he made undrafted players like Foster and Fielder into.above average players and shuffled in bums to replace Pouncey and others to very little drop off when they were injured.

I'll just say this Lem, I hope you're wrong about Klemm. But, even if you aren't, bitching about the job the guy is doing before he even starts the job? Makes no sense. Smacks of bitching just to ***** about something.

Also, not that it matters to me at the professional level, but do you have links for the fired for (recruiting) cheating and poor OL play? Cause it seems to me that he was let go when Mora Jr. was let go (Possibly due to the allegations about not treating injured players correctly). In any event, it's pretty common for position coaches to not be retained when the head coach is let go.

With only about two weeks left until National Signing Day, UCLA fired one of its top recruiters.

UCLA has parted ways with offensive line coach and run game coordinator Adrian Klemm, sources confirmed Sunday night.

Klemm, who came to UCLA with head coach Jim Mora prior to the 2012 season, was the highest-paid assistant coach at a public Pac-12 school last season. His contract worth $760,000 was set to expire this June. The 39-year-old coach earns the majority of his salary as one of UCLA’s top recruiters.

After his first recruiting period in Westwood, Klemm was named the 2012 Pac-12 Recruiter of the Year by 24/7 Sports. However, he is currently under a two-year show-cause order for organizing training services and housing for two recruits in March 2014. Had UCLA kept Klemm, the school would have been required to submit an oversight plan to the NCAA for the coach until 2018.

The UCLA offensive line struggled with injuries and depth issues this past season as the Bruins were one of the worst offenses in the Pac-12. After losing three starters from the 2015 offensive line that gave up only 14 sacks, the Bruins gave up 24 sacks in 2016 and were ranked 127th in the country in rushing offense.

UCLA now has coaching vacancies at the running back and offensive line positions under new offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. The Bruins only have three verbal commitments from offensive linemen as of Sunday night heading into Feb. 1’s National Signing Day.

Jim Mora Jr. was fired on November 19th and Chip Kelly was hired on November 25th, but I believe their OC Jeff Fisch coached the team through the bowl game.

Thank you. Well, the two year show cause order explains his absence from the college coaching ranks for those two years. I believe the show cause order travels with the man.
Impressive that UCLA only gave up 14 sacks in the second to last year that he was there. Seems injuries did in his line the next year.
In any event, I'm just saying. Give the guy a chance. If he sucks, hopefully they won't wait two years to fire him.

I hear yaz SteelBuckeye. Sometimes I think some here are thinking "can we FIRE him before we hire him"

I've always held to time will tell so to at least give the guy a chance.

Salute the nation
