You put film out that you cannot run. They prevent the big play and circumstances put you into bad spots. Then you get gamed with a coverage or a blitz. You cannot be this one dimensional. They will not recover from this. They even made an effort to put Macdonald in. Didn't change anything. They cannot run block. Most of this is on the Oline coach. And that leads back to Tomlin cause he cannot fix anything in season. Never has never will.

Well it's only going to get worse. I think Dotson and Feiler are both going to be done for year with Pec injuries.

I gotta be honest I didn't want Feiler really injured. But I was curious to see Dotson. Didn't change much. Then he got hurt. They are pretty much done.

The crazy thing is the running game was working early this season then it just went to ****.

The play calling changed. They went away from the motion and better designed runs. They got too cautious with this short **** passing.

They've tried running with big personnel and can't they've tried spreading the D out and running those sprint draws, but that doesn't work either, our guys are getting physically dominated
I find it really hard to believe that Pouncey, Decastro, Big Al who are experienced seasoned run blockers suddenly forgot how to block. I feel this is a scheme they are ill suited for. Something is ******.

I feel like we are running so many telegraphed plays, I wonder if they aren’t saving wrinkles for the playoffs... I hope thats the case because the other answer is we are coached by the bad coaching staff from the Waterboy... clinging to the playbook haley left behind....

Lol this coaching staff isn't smart enough to do something like that. What you see is what you're going to get the rest of the year.

They still need to be able to run when the other team knows its coming

Did Ben even line up behind the Center once in this game. pretty much makes it pretty easy for the Defense.

I believe that is because for the first number of weeks they ran and showed they were not going to pass down field. Once teams realize you won’t or can’t throw down field, the put 8 in the box and swarm the short quick throws. Until you PROVE you can and will throw down field, there is no need to worry about more than 10 yards.

sounds a lot like last year.

Someone in the game thread made a great point. DBs are sitting on short passes so they are crowding the LOS. You are basically looking at 8-9 in the box every run. Also we do not pass from under center so we basically tell the D we are running. We also go empty backfield alot which tells the D we are passing. Other teams with ****** Wrs and QBs find ways to get WRs open or run the ball. I think the stat said in the last 6 games we were averaging 55 rushing yrds / game and that was before tonight.

The Steeler could go 4 wide backing the defense off. They don’t. What happened to no huddle?

The volume stats are deceptive. We only really got good push and production against NY and HOU. The rest of the games we were sitting under or around 2 Yards Before Contact. We broke some tackles and hit a few big runs but the rest of the time we were mostly running out of shotgun for like 2 YPC. Against Philly we sat there and ran it out of shotgun the entire game to no effect.

The way I see it is this... The Steelers can’t run mostly because defenses are playing with the entire defense close to the LOS to stop the little 3 and 5 yard passes. The offense hardly ever tries to throw the ball downfield so defenses see no reason to try to defend against that. The defense even with the injuries is playing good enough to win games in the NFL. In the two losses they’ve given up 20 and 19 points respectively ( the last field goal Washington made came after a turnover deep in our end of the field). In my opinion, this is 100% on the offense. They’re awful right now and I’m not sure it can be fixed at this point.

Too many people hurt now. I think some of that 11-0 came from feasting on teams that had starters out with the 'Rona.

We had some longer/intermediate pass plays earlier this year that complemented the run and visa versa. We were connecting some on those and also drawing DPI to loosen up the middle. Ben did not go under center at all last night. Buffalo did about the time they started rolling

Still have yet to see them bring the FULLBACK onto the field and run out of the I formation. We don't need to go shotgun every snap.

Ben went under center, on one of the early runs to Conner that went no where. I'm not too concerned about the not being under center, we've run the ball for the past several seasons from the shot gun and pistol, KC, GB, NO, Tampa all run alot from the shotgun. Claypool did drop an early deep ball.

I don't think Watt played a single offensive snap last night, and when they do use Watt, it's always on the LOS as an extra blocker.

The concern stems from the fact that 99% of the time, when Ben IS under center, it is ALWAYS a running play. When we sub out a RB for a play, it is almost always a running play. You can tell just off of formation and personnel what plays we will be running 90% of the time. If fans can figure this out pretty easily, professional coaches that do this for a living can obviously figure it out. When you cannot run the ball effectively, and you rely on a short passing game, that is a recipe for disaster. Last night, in the second half, the Bills had 8 and 9 men in the box to take away the short passing game and stuff the run. When they blitzed, we rarely run a delayed screen to a RB or TE to catch them in a hole. Every screen we seem to run involves the slow developing WR screen pass with no lead blockers out front. We rarely run any quick slants to take advantage of tight coverage and the speed of our WR. This offense is so poorly designed and called that it is almost comical. The fact that for 3 weeks now we have seen no adjustments as to what teams are doing defensively is mind numbing. Establishing a running game does not mean you have to go Run-Run-Pass...it is totally acceptable to mix it up. I thought Charlie Batch was nuts 6 weeks ago when he was criticizing the Steelers offense and their inability to run the football effectively. He told people 6 weeks ago that this team will hit a wall if they cannot have a consistent running game. The game plans, play calling, and in-game adjustments are just head scratching to put it mildly.
