He joins Quinton Dunbar, Deandre Baker,Cody Latimer, and former NFL linebacker Antonio Morrison that are in trouble with the law. This off season has been brutal for the majority of people let alone NFL players.

Covid-19 is claiming lives, while people with a lot of time on their hands more than normal find themselves making bad decisions. These players don't need any added incentive to screw up they do fine on their own.

Enter Ed Oliver who will not be jeopardizing his spot on the roster anymore than his top ten draft status was jeopardized entering the NFL, despite one erroneous youtube highlights so called draftniks claim. As some fans are wondering if there will even be a NFL, some of these NFL players are left wondering if there even will be a continuing NFL career. Be it as it may career altering or not these NFL players need to make better decisions while make better use of their time.

He was top in the top 10 draft picks as I recall

In no way is this an excuse but they are very young and handed a BOAT load of money, do the math.

I think the NFL needs to do a better JOB of rookie entry into the NFL. I'm talking a lengthy class of from a week after the draft to 1st OTA. It would be about finances / girls / liqueur / safe actions /life / parent-hood / amongst others.

ONE thing though, some players just are who they are but many could be helped.

I'm NOT sorry for any of these guys getting arrested as they make their bed they need to lye in it.

I know they have instructional things in place. I am not sure how thorough it is. But there is something in place on guiding them with behavior, money, etc.

It's included in the Mandatory three day rookie orientation camp. You're right as it is just cramed in with everything else. That's why I think it needs to be a longer bigger more in depth mandatory class. Just my two denar

so in the article they say he was hauling a "dune buggy" now what kind of idiot would call a 4-wheeler like Oliver was towing a dune buggy....

I was surprised this was at 9PM....most of the really stupid **** happens much later

Drink I think it would be great if entry programs could help just one of these knuckle heads. Most are so high on themselves they are not listening to anyone. New found riches allows them to do things most others can't fathom. The final dagger usually consists of the posse of negative trash that gravitate towards rookies that have this sudden winfall. It is all about choice...and if you didn't have a level head growing up .....no one can level it for you once you hit the big time. Ultimately it is all on them.....no excuses...

i have seen references to rookie symposiums done by the NFL...soem rooks have raved about it in the past. I think the NFL does what it can, but a few lectures or presentations on money managemetn and public relations won't undo what is wired into them over many years of HS and college ball.

should be a week with Chris Carter and Ervin and maybe Favre talking about the mistakes they made. A good influence speaker can be guys like Reggie White Bettis, Rice, Warner and some udfa that made it so remind the guys that came from nothing now that they have made it, how not to throw it away like how AB, rice, TO did or have at thier peaks

They did that. That's where Chris Carter said someone in their "posse" has to be the fall guy. Not change behavior. Find a way not to get caught.

I mean, you need to change the culture of fast money, fast cars, fast women, guns and alcohol. Those things just don't mix well in a group who come from impoverished backgrounds, questionable social structure, and lack of male role models.

You can not expect one part of a culture to just "be different" because they are athletes. Athletes are just a reflection of where they came from and you will never change that unless you help the root problems in a more constructive and meaningful way.

These guys get arrested, because they do not have respect for life and peoples life, it/s about self.

I don't think any four or five or a year training symposium is going to change the core that they already have.

my guess on the situation given the few facts available

Oliver was out riding 4 wheelers on a buddy's property, and as usually happens this is accompanied by beer drinking and pistol shooting. Oliver has a few too many and stupidly drives home drunk and without properly storing the pistol he was shooting. Even more stupidly, he leaves his beer can between his legs when the cop strolls up to the window. Hell most trucks have a slot on the door you can stash a bottle or can in...get it out of site dumbass

Extremely stupid ******* thing to do, especially given his position.

With age comes wisdom, hopefully the ******** learns from this

and yeah I know the "Homer" comments are coming.....

Can anyone even come close explaining why these players continue to put themselves in these positions.

They've been babied all their lives because they play a game. You can't tell me that NFL players have coaches that are "Leaders of men" on one hand and then "They need the NFL to hold their hands while they are in the league because they can't control themselves". It's BS. They've gotten away with everything their entire lives. So the NFL telling them anything isn't going to work. Let him pay the same consequences as anyone else that gets caught DWI with a weapon.

Coolie, anyone with a 1/2 brain and NO tinfoil hat can tell you have nothing to do with the actions of these grown men. Just because you influence some here doesn't put you in "Man of Men" status, CaRRY ON

The blue chip athletes are generally worse. They are always catered to and get out of things because of their status.

How the **** did Coach not start this thread...

How the **** has Coach not chimed in that he's a bust, a wasted pick, a stain on society and essentially the worst thing that ever happened in the history of the world?
