LeVeon Bell......Signs with J-E-T-S JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!.....BREAKING NEWS!!!

Interesting:

Le’Veon Bell Claims Steelers Had Interest In Trading For Him
Alex Kozora October 31, 2019

Le’Veon Bell made a pretty surprising claim today, saying the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of several teams inquiring about him prior to this week’s trade deadline.

He appeared on Sirius Radio’s 17 Weeks, a podcast hosted by Jalen Ramsey, Cole Beasley, and Bell, to talk about trade rumors that swirled about. He confirmed the rumors were true and rattled off the teams who came calling.

“I found out through my agent he had talked to the Jets and there were teams like Houston, the Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs,” Bell said. “And surprisingly the Steelers were all in the mix in trying to trade for me.”

If the link to the podcast doesn’t work, you can hear the comments via FS1’s Speak For Yourself, at about the one minute mark.

It’s unknown how close the Steelers were to doing a deal and ultimately, Bell remained a Jet.

Bell has struggled in New York this season running behind a patchwork offensive line, a revolving door at quarterback, and an offense that’s struggled to get him the football. Signing Bell to a long-term deal reportedly wasn’t head coach Adam Gase’s idea. That was driven by then GM Mike Maccagnan who was fired by the team on May 15th, two months after Bell inked his four year, $52 million deal.

Pittsburgh never wanted to lose Bell. The only reason why he left was to seek a top-market deal and structure that would be more player-friendly than what the Steelers traditionally offer. With him receiving less money on the market, and any guaranteed money in a trade counting against the Jets, not the acquiring team, it makes sense the Steelers would still have some level of interest.

Chalk it up to another attempt of Kevin Colbert being aggressive. This year, he’s already traded up for Devin Bush and sent next year’s first rounder for Minkah Fitzpatrick. How close was he on getting Bell back in black and gold? We’ll probably never know though it’s fair to assume the Steelers had less draft capital to work with than the other teams Bell mentioned in the podcast.

And if the Jets do ultimately trade Bell, which seems likely to happen at some point in the relative near future? Pittsburgh might come calling again.

We never wanted to lose Bell, and we offered him more. So why not make the call and see what it would cost? We would have got him for less than we offered to pay him...definitely worth the call

Except for any compensation we would have to give up.

I find this hard to believe we dont have much draft capital and Bell was not happy here.

LeMEon bell is near the end of his career. You can say all you want but his greed is what is making his end come faster. When you are playing for the money, passion has a tendacy to leak away. It takes PASSION to get those extra yards, money doesn't make the bumps and bruises for the extra effort.

Think about this, you go to work for a paycheck. You put in your time based on your salary. Over time it gets harder to put in the extra hour here and there but not get paid for it, after all you are on a salary. Bell is finding it harder and harder to put the "extra" into his game. Add in the wear and tear, commitment, and attitude of accepting you are not the best there is............ Also the realization the RB position has eroded as to relevancy due to the change of the NFL game.

No SIR, Pittsburgh needs to pass and let the gauranteed money juke away into the sunset.

Salute the nation

Trying to get Bell back makes zero sense. Why would they want to pay him the money and lose at least a 1st round pick in the process. I'm assuming the Jets wanted at least a 1st for him. If not, they are pretty damn stupid.

A.) I am against paying any rb near qb money... I don’t care if its a geneticly combined clone of tony Dorsett, Barry sanders, and Jim Brown... just not a position that is worth it.

B.) the Steelers apparently disagree with my take, cause they offered him a lot more than I would

C.) the Steelers almost transitioned him this offseason and almost certainly would have matched that jets deal... it makes total sense that if the jets weren’t looking for big compensation, trading for him at the price they were willing to pay initially minus signing bonuses would be something they wanted to explore

I mean they weren’t giving the jets whatever ridiculous price they put on him though...

Yea, I don't get it. Bell said his agent told him the Steelers had inquired about him. WHY? So you wouldn't break the bank for the guy when he was here but now you are willing to trade away picks AND pay him more guaranteed money? I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for this FO. They are in panic mode for some reason. Giving away draft picks for a RB is insane.

Due diligence... i mean you have a metric ton of rb injuries so you call the jets and ask what they want for him... if they are idiots and want a sixth or some fringe player then great... you deal for him... if they want a premium pick or player then you hang up like they obviously did

Nothing wrong with window shopping, but doesn't mean you are buying. I suspect they are also just keeping notes on the market value of RB's as well. You don't know what the market will bear until you look around.

Also, this is coming from Bell via his agent. I have no doubt there is some "sellers spin" going on here to lay groundwork for a play to get him traded this off season.

They are in panic mode for some reason.
You have Ben Roethlisberger tied up for 2, maybe 3 more years. With Roethlisberger being out this season they FO is seeing what life after Ben looks like and no matter HOW hard you try to put lipstick on that pig, it aint pretty. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't feel like it's pretty darn critical to get a trophy NOW as they don't expect to sniff another one for some time.

Oh for crying out loud, Bell said his agent said some teams were interested including Pitt. I believe agents as much as habitual liars. No organization has come out and mentioned they were interested. If at all the teams listed are the teams his agent called to see if they were interested, hence where LeVeon was told by his agent “hey I spoke to these teams”.

Pitt’s cap situation would not be able to take on Bell’s contract. So no chance from them. Now if Bell was cut.......then that would be interesting.

Bell is resetting the RB market alright. Between him and Gurley, they are proving that there is no point in paying that kind of scratch to a RB.

100% agree with this. Only the very top RBs are getting those monster contracts. If there's any grey matter involving the player they will be let go or traded. You don't want to pay that kind of money for an RB with the hits they take. This is the one position that is royally screwed when it comes to the rookie contract structure and then getting that second big contract.

Okay.

But please keep in mind that the entire basis for your concern is what somebody said somebody said, with no actual, oh, I don't know, EVIDENCE that the claim is remotely true. Further, if the Steelers FO called the Jets and said, "I give you a 2021 5th rounder, you eat most of the salary," that might change the analysis, no?

And of course we have no idea IF the Steelers FO called, or IF they did, what they said. A non-issue about a fictional issue about a make-believe problem.

The Jets would be on the hook for the guaranteed money. It was WAY less than we offered. Obviously, they weren't going to give the Jets what they wanted or we would have Bell back. Bell has openly admitted to messing up the end of his Steeler career by not texting players back, mainly Ben.

You all can keep on hating him all you want. He didn't go out like brown did...

Cardinals gave up a 5th or 6th for Drake, and he was impressive last night..

They did their homework, that guy was really impressive, really fast, with moves

We really to find a RB that can play more than two games in a row without being hurt, because we all know we'll run the wheels off them

That's true Spike. I love Conner, but he does get hurt often.
