Just breaking in Twitter- sorry no link yet. Multiple sources including ArtJr reporting he unexpectedly passed away last night.

Wow our WR's coach.......that really sucks! Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Calling Hines Ward?

Lolley at DKSports is reporting it too. No details yet as they are respecting the family’s privacy until they allow it.

Statement from Rooney on Darryl Drake

We are at a loss for words following Darryl Drake’s passing this morning. Darryl had such an impact on the players he coached and everyone he worked with throughout his entire career. He was a passionate coach and had a tremendous spirit toward life, his family, his faith and the game of football.

Our prayers and thoughts are with his wife, Sheila, his three daughters, his grandchildren and entire family during this difficult time.

Yeah it does. Maybe give Richard Mann a ring until they find someone more permanent

RIP and blessings to his family / friends.

Salute the nation

This is terrible news. Condolences to his family, his fellow coaches, and that WR room, must be reeling right now.

So sad to have something like this happen so suddenly.

Rest in peace, coach.

Man that is sad. I’m guessing heart attack?
Just another reason to win the SB for him!

Thoughts and prayers to all his family and friends.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin statement on Drake’s passing:

Darryl was a close friend and had a tremendous impact on my coaching career. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather, and it is difficult to put into words the grief our entire team is going through right now.

Darryl loved the game of football and every player he ever coached. We will use our faith to guide us and help his family throughout the difficult time.

My heart and our prayers are with his wife, Sheila, and Darryl’s entire family.

Don't worry about the football. That will be fine. They will cover it. Just sorry to his family and the people in the organization touched by the loss. RIP Coach.

True- but you have a group of young guys who loved this guy and has spent the past couple of weeks with him. Perhaps bringing in an older guy like Mann could help them as a group and help keep them focused. That’s the other side of this I can see.

First and foremost condolences to his family and friends. Terrible news on a Sunday morning.
I see the Steelers have cancelled Sunday activities upon this news, rightfully so.

As for the football aspect calling up Richard Mann seems logical. Many would like to see Hines Ward get a call but I don't know how Tomlin would feel about this after Ward's comments toward the Head Coach and the culture problems with the team.
Ju Ju and Moncrief will have to accept bigger roles in leading the WR group amidst this unfortunate loss of their leader in the room.
Rest in Peace Coach. I am pretty sure these youngsters are going to make you proud by how they carry themselves this year as men. The ultimate way to honour a good coach, football is secondary.

He was a good guy. I hope his family can see their way clear.

The man transitioned to the next realm. His spirit will be with those receivers...

He's gonna help this core way more than we can see at this time. His spirit lives on.....
