The Agony of De Feet – an Antonio Brown Story

OMG. I pray this is true! I so desperately pray that he sticks to his guns and refuses to play unless the ENTIRE LEAGUE acquiesce to his perfectly reasonable demands to use a helmet that does less to prevent head trauma, like the trauma that his new teammate gave him that likely contributes GREATLY to his current, perfectly reasonable, state of mind.

Or, is it possible that Brown is beginning to realize he isn't going to be the player he was with Pittsburgh and he needs some serious "reasons" why he isn't performing like he expects to?

Brown once again tried to take the field with his old helmet, which he had since had repainted with colors approximating—but not completely mimicking—the Raiders’ silver-and-black design...

This to me is the single funniest thing in this whole, bizarre affair. The notion Brown took his Steelers helmet from last season and literally painted it silver with his own two hands - with what, spray paint? - to look like a Raiders helmet and showed up to practice with it.

Not sure why, but I find that absolutely hilarious.

The guy got a tens of milllions in Signing money from the Steelers, reneged on his contract and is now doing the same thing to OAK. The man is either batshite crazy or one of the greatest con men in history. Ms. Sizzle **** either needs serious medical intervention or sent to jail as a thief.

The Steelers knew this AB in and out. They took the 3rd and 5th?? and hauled ***. They knew...yes sir they knew..

They dumped SBMVP Holmes for a fifth.......in the 6th that year picked up Brown.....dumped Brown for a 3rd and 5th and picked up Johnson.... If Johnson becomes a pro bowler I wi just bow to the FO........if only they picked defenaive backs like they do receivers. Come on Diontae......when you think about it santonio Holmes brought not only a SB but Brown and now Johnson......Holmes could turn into a starting high caliber wideouy for two decades!!!

This trade is looking better and better to me each day AB says another bonehead thing. Man is this fantastic or what? We don't have to deal with his BS anymore! I'm much happier as a fan because of it.

Also, I don't know why the league doesn't do what hockey did, when it instituted helmets. Vets were grandfathered in and didn't have to change, eventually everyone now wears helmets, and there was zero issue with the transition.

I see no problem with Vets keeping their old helmets.

The NFL was facing lawsuits over CTE and allegations that they didn't do enough to protect and inform players. Beyond that, there was a pretty strong negative PR thing going on too. I think the NFL did what it felt it needed to do in response to those things. That said, I don't have an issue with a vet using an old style helmet if that is what he used before and if that player signs a waiver stating he understands the risks.

There is another piece to this, however. Helmets have to be certified on a regular basis. In HS, every helmet must be shipped out for inspection and certification every 2 years. Those helmets that fail are repaired if they can be, but usually they are just replaced. There is also a limit to how many times a helmet can be recertified. I read somewhere that AB is not just wanting to use the same model helmet, but the very same helmet. I dont' know NFL recert rules on helmets, but I know they have ones similar to what HS uses (and HS rules flow down from the NCAA rules). If his helmet is 10 years old, it is likely illegal even in a grandfather situation because it would have passed the number of times it can be re-certified (and it probably can't pass. Micro fractures happen in the shells of those things over time and there is nothing that can be done to fix those.

edit: and an unused model of the type he bought 10 years ago may not be available today.

I have on of those hemets. It was my Grandfathers. Hard as hell. Like a baseball glove on your head.

We all did dude (well many of us did..:) ). It's a frickin shame because the guy was one of the best receivers that I remember since Swanny, but crazy is crazy and I'm glad as hell he's another teams problem now.

And here's a tidbit. The team sport right behind football for CTE?

Hockey

Crosby is prone to temper tantrums at times too.
Not AB levels, but Sid has had some meltdowns. Especially if he’s unhappy with the bench boss.

These are contact sports. Concussions do damage brain tissue. Sucks to know, but these guys still have more than enough awareness to know the consequences of their sports contract

I'm surprised hockey isn't #1. The objective isn't to hit other people but the speeds are a helluva lot faster.

Crosby was a temper tantrum sufferer earlier in his career, right? He's been much better behaved the last few seasons IIRC, no?

Well, but you're not hitting them straight in the head, Ron.

Having Brown sign a waiver to wear his old helmet is pointless. If you think for one second he wouldn't sue the league the moment he got out you're crazy. He'll just say that his head trauma cause him to make the poor choice to sign the waiver.
