After Gentry was drafted, tight ends coach James Daniel talked him up, but made it pretty clear that he viewed his receiving abilities as ahead of his blocking abilities. That is not due to his frame—he is 6’8” and 265 pounds—but rather due to his inexperience.

But Bob Labriola passed on a note this morning in his first installment of Asked and Answered that I found interesting and worth passing on. When asked a question about Gentry relative to James, he finished his answer by noting, “I have been told Gentry is a more physical player than Jesse James”.

Interesting tidbit

buying. James wasn't a very physical blocker.

Gentry is actually one of the draft picks that intrigues me although that isn't as much about his talent as the fact the team seems set to go to camp with Vance, X, and Gentry. If Gentry doesn't flash quickly, however, I think Steelers will be looking at other team TE cuts.

Well, they say you can't teach "want to". No slight against James because I heard he was a tireless worker in practice (and rarely missed one), but perhaps he was working on technique more than wanting to "blow that ****** up in front of you", so to speak.

Not surprised actually. When Jesse was here the incumbent response to his hands were “sticky” for catching and for blocking, “there is passive effort”. As Tunch and Wolf would say.

Buying as James was a very easy take down. Never could out run or out muscle the extra yards. Average blocker but it also sounds like Gentry will need some work there. I bet Gentry is equal or better by game 6-8.

I was never a big JJ fan, but he worked his *** off to get the most out of his abilities, he always ran hard after the catch, but he just wasn't that athletic. To claim Gentry is better now? He'll be lucky to make the team.

Gentry has a big body. I'd still prefer they brought in a legit TE though what they will probably do is keep one on speed dial. I will say this Bob Labriola is a **** wad. He speaks in a condescending way to legit fans. Yet he is the height of Missy Matthew's and has the body of a deer you would shoot on the last day of the season cause you didn't see anything else.

I hated that about Ed Douchette. Some fans wondered why I disliked him so, but for awhile there he was a huge dick to the fans. He eased up as time went on. These arrogant pricks think their **** don't stink. But we are the reason why the Steelers still exist. We watch the games. Sure they get the nuggets they FO feed them. But they aren't what some of them think they are.

DUDE, you just have problems in commen sense and reading comprehension departments. Like the misquito that just won't die because you keep rehatching every 3 minutes. Like the best friends little brother his mom makes us take with so we feed you hot dogs and chips until full then turn the heater up to get you to fall asleep,.... So we can actually do something with out you're insistence of shitlery.

I think he speaks condescendingly also, but I always felt he was just such a homer who cant / wont write anything worth reading because he is part of the Team.

The homer part is true of a certain portion of a bunch of them. There are some sharks in the Pitt media who when something like AB happens they just won't let it go. I don't like that either, but Labriola is on the friggen official website. He is a company man not a journalist. If Mike Tomlin **** on his face he wouldn't say boo. But the bigger thing for me is the condescending attitude from a guy who there is no chance he played anything more than High School Football. AT BEST.

I don't make much of it myself. If James had stayed he would be the physical one. My guess is that if you go back and read what they said about James when he was drafted it wasn't "Not physical enough". I'm sure it was high praise as well.

Yeah sure that was his Steelers info in the other thread. His reading comprehension is that of a toddler.

Prove otherwise, I'm waiting. More board pollution from GASHsteel. And you might want to knock off the donuts.

When JJ began his NFL career he was not very good at anything, including catching. I recall him dropping some easy ones. He probably only made the team because
he was from PSU.

Do you realize how the Steelers control pretty much all Pitt media? It's actually very lame. If you write something the team doesn't like, they take perks away.

He was a local kid who played at Penn State, which is why his talent and contribution was overinflated by the fans and overpromoted on social media. However, I do think he earned his spot on the depth chart his rookie year despite, as you said, not being that good a much. I'll give him a ton of credit developing into a No. 2 TE.

Moar derp from patriotpop. No proof is needed. We know you aren't old enough to see half of them play. So that leaves you reading **** to collect information, which you gave no source-link.

I don't eat doughnuts. You said that to another poster. Everyone that calls you out must be fat, you twatwaffling troll..

There is a gash alright it takes up the majority of your cerebrum..

More board pollution from the worst poster on SN. GASHsteel is just jealous of anyone who can cobble together original thoughts, since he doesn't know what that is like.

And, you might want to hit the gym a few times.

So by game 6-6, he will be producing at a clip to about 400 yards for the season? OK, that would be decent, if Vance is going off.

So, by mid-season Gentry will be on pace for 30-43 receptions? Cool.

You have no original thoughts. They all come from Steelerswire, or plagiarized from a site you refuse to name. Again troll your opinion means nothing, you just keep licking that window. It is almost clean..
