D.K. Metcalf...too much size?

When did he acquire all the muscle and if it was due to that injury and recent (6months) weight training, he may have become muscle bound, you know to much muscle and NOT enough speed. Weight training is great but you have to have speed training to go with it. No offense to any weight trainers but when I was boxing I fought all kinds of :muscle bound" fighters and they were way to slow. Running is the same way, I use to run 10K road races and the muscle bound guys were always at the back of the pack at the finish line. What I'm saying is there is a fine line of Muscle vs weight vs speed and once balanced you become the true athlete you were meant to be. If his combine "speeds" are fast then hell yes, take a hard look but I think you will find him in tight end "speed" CATEGORY.

Neck injury makes me pause more than his size. But due to that size I definitely want to see his 3cone, vert. etc.

He is, apparently, up to 245. Lol...he looks like a OLB or edge rusher...not WR.

His workouts should be interesting.

Yes, too much muscle can be detrimental to athletic performance.
It weighs you down. Unless he's doing explosive work to keep mobility, then perhaps he has a chance.

I'll hold judgement until I see his athleticism on display

I remember joe montana saying he hit the weights hard the one off season and it messed him up. He lost some flexibility / rotation.... If i weight trained i think i would follow a routine designed for a gymnast. Those guys are strong as an ox and obviously flexible

David Boston was 6'2" 228 when in the league and blew up to 270-280 range... his biggest problem was his frame wasn't the type to hold that weight imo... Metcalf is two inches taller and has only gained 15 lbs... Teach that guy to block and use him as a te... mismatches galore.

Hard pass. I want Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia.

Another LOCK DOWN corner to pair w/ Haden...

So let it be written, so let it be done...

Not in love with Baker in 1. I would rather have the Washington CB or go in a different direction..

I kinda agree but we'd have to 'trade up' to get the kid from Washington (unless God see fit for him to fall to us). IMO, Baker is already better than Artie Burnt on paper and in real life...

Come on people this is not the 70's or even the 80's....When weight training was frowned upon

Weight training myths come mostly from those who don't get in the gym....Sure if he is just "smashing" his muscles to bits, he may be too muscle bound. But the advantages of weight training is well documented for todays athlete.

Yeah, I lifted weights from the 70's till today.

I thought because he was a little light that might help our cause? Also curious what ILer will be sitting there as well. But would be ok with that in 2.

I'd imagine once he has the ball it might be difficult for a 180 lb corner to tackle, but I cannot see that possibly being to his advantage otherwise. He looks like a middle linebacker. There is a reason they say so and so was covered by a middle linebacker and was wide open.

It depend if he's weight training and not bodybuilding.
Bodybuilding is musclebound aesthetics.

Weight training you're still hitting the compounds: bench, squat, deads but not focusing on isolation unless wanted.
But in turn. Maintaining flexibility and explosiveness is key if you're going to get that big. Vernon Davis made it work. This kid can do it

But Vernon Davis played TE. If this guy plays TE OK. Wr? I dont know.

White (LSU)
Bush (Michigan)

I've always though Vernon Davis was fast enough and athletic enough to play WR.
Maybe the kid gets converted to TE.

Before the neck injury he was pretty decent.
I'm actually intrigued how he moves since getting bigger

He look like David Boston, hope he doesn't get hurt like him.

I think that photo I linked gas some weird fish-eye lens effect going on. He's huge but hes not bulky at all. Built like a larger Terrell Owens. His frame is HUGE.

This!

My uncle (who graduated high school in 1975) forbid his sons from bulking up for football because “it turns to fat and you carry it for the rest of your life”. SMH.
