former outside linebacker James Harrison made it clear during a Thursday interview on The Undisputed that head coach Mike Tomlin should receive all the blame for the team’s disappointing 2018 campaign.

“I would have to give that to Mike Tomlin and the reason I give it to him because he’s the head coach,” Harrison said when asked who is the most to blame for the Steelers disappointing 2018 season. “He has to go out there and get this team ready. You’ve had instances where the defense plays well, you’ve had an instances where the offense plays well and you know that they’re capable of doing that.

“If you look at the defense that he’s actually built, I think he has six or seven first-rounders, he has a couple of second-rounders through either draft or trade, so he’s put together a defense that should be capable of going out there and stopping offenses. And I think at the end of it the Achilles heel has been the defense not able to come through in the end. So, I have to put that on Mike Tomlin even though he has won a significant amount of games, he’s won a Super Bowl.”

After placing the blame on Tomlin for the Steelers disappointing 2018 season, Harrison then proceeded to take another shot at his former head coach and the one Super Bowl championship he’s won.

“The Super Bowl that he did win was basically a Bill Cowher-based team,” Harrison said. “The team that actually went in 2010 [to the Super Bowl] was still a majority of Cowher [players] and since then I think he’s reached the AFC championship game one time and over the course of the last two years he’s lost the first game to Jacksonville where the defense gave up 40, 50 something points.”

Meanwhile in NJ, someones head just exploded.

Tomlin totally screwed James promising him significant playing time prior to signing him then they keep him on the bench. Did the same crap with LaGarrett Blount and rarely used him.

I don’t disagree with James one bit in what he said. This defense has enough high draft picks that it should be playing so much better. Tomlin though won’t be on the last year of his contract in 2019 since I think it runs through 2020.

It’s s damn shame that we have a player like James that played so well for us to have been treated the way he was.

The most damming thing is that he said he couldn't get a straight answer from Tomlin. He kept telling him he had a plan for him but he would show up on game day and he would be deactivated. Tomlin even told Rooney he had a plan for him but Rooney said he didn't know what it was. He said no other coach ever did that to him.

The rest of the panel think that Tomlin has lost the team.

Going to be so disappointing when we realize nothing is going to be done about him in the offseason.

The peasants never want to hear their rulers are anything less than perfect

Well done Mr Harrison

Maybe if he was paying attention in meetings and not sleeping they would have played him more. Funny how a guy like Harrison would never talk to the media when he played, but now he got all of the answers.

Strange that all the other players were ok talking about Harrison but now people get pissed when Harrison talks about what happened. Maybe if Tomlin were honest with the guy?

Also I find it interesting that Sharpe and Harrison both think that Tomlin lost the team. I read part of an article that talks about Tomlin laying down the law to the coaches and players about being at the stadium 2 hours before the game. Nobody did it. Not even the coaches showed up.

You'd prefer he talk about Tomlin while still on the team, like Swearinger? I think a few of these guys, like Troy, were not fans but too classy to air it out.

I'm pretty sure we have no LBs on this team who get an interception return of 100 yards for a TD

I, for one, believe him

Debo not going away quietly?
If ownership does anything with CMT in 2019 I hope they hold him accountable and take ownership of the Defense and his wasted high draft picks that are colossal busts.

What “high draft picks” have been “colossal busts”?

Jarvis — yep ; Artie .... how many CBS went off the board right before him since drafting as a 1st place team?

This team has drafted extraordinarily well considering where they have picked. Everyone has missed picks....

But imagine if Shazier doesn’t have misfortune injury or Bell agreed to that deal his agent said yes to prior to last year.

The top 3 picks of last year should have been all selected for Pro Bowl....

Don’t blame the draft. They’ve done damn well with where they have picked

Harrison comes off as a bitter former player who wants to make a name for himself in the media every time he appears on that show. You find ex-players who either go out of their way to distance themselves from their former teams or are complete homes. Credit to anyone who can take a balanced approach. However, there is NO arguing his comments about the defense. With that many high draft picks there is really no excuse to it performing so poorly.
