Can we all finally agree that Tomlin needs to be canned?

Exactly. There has never been a more appropriate situation to trade a head coach to a lesser team for a first round pick(s) or something. All we ever hear is how Tomlin would be gobbled up in a second by other teams. Well then maybe they should put their money (draft pick) where their mouth is. Get a high end pick, another team improves, and we can hire the right coach for our team. Win win for everybody

That would be beyond awesome! Send Mikey cool shades to Tampa Bay for draft picks.

Listening to him right now....Expects callers to name who they would replace Tomlin with? HEY COOK THAT ISNT OUR JOB.

So we should put up with mediocrity because there is a chance someone might be worse? YEARS of .500 or better seasons where they underperform, and when they do make the playoffs getting trucked?

I would call in but I would lose it and get canned. His voice drives me crazy.

Cook is flat out rude to callers that disagree with his views and criticize Tomlin. He and Bouchette both suck.

Poor Tomlin fans, I hope they will be all ok.

A lot of people on here are rude to posters who don't hate Tomlin.

Besides we don't hate the man, we just want a better coach.

Exactly, he may be a great guy to sit and have a beer with, he is probably a great humanitarian, he could be named a patron saint, but he is a mediocre at best football coach that routinely under performs.

I get that and can understand that. But it gets so over the top...he gets blamed for fumbles and interceptions. A guy misses a tackle...Tomlin. The other team makes a great play (they do here and again)...Tomlin. The wife burned the Christmas ham...it's all Tomlin! Tomlin was probably on the grassy knoll somewhere.

Bash me all you want but I do see the spoiled Steeler fan angle particularly living near Cincinnati. It is the single biggest reason Bengals fans hate us like they do. We don't appreciate the success we have year in year out even if it isn't what we hope for every year. Seeing what they go through with an owner who truly keeps a coach who sucks and has really lost his team. Perspective boys it is all about perspective.
We are still one of the most consistently competitive teams in the league and have been under Tomlin.

I'm not going to bash you, but the reality is that we have far too much talent to just be competitive. The numbskull mistakes continue, and all I hear is cliches.

But that is where we will have to differ. With the talent on this roster if you are accepting competitive I really believe you need to think about it. I think virtually anyone who is legitimately competent could produce competitive.

We had a 3 game lead in the division over the Ravens 6 weeks ago. In 6 weeks we dropped a 3 game lead and people want to talk about being competitive...With 6 pro-bowl players and probably 2-3 more deserving to be there, and this is the best you can do. But sure, lets celebrate some more participation trophies for good effort!

And that is wrong of them. But make no mistake about it he is responsible for this team underachieving yearly.

And when a man gets stamped with that it takes away the probability that he can take this team where they need to go.

For those fans that expect more than a playoff entry, that is unacceptable.

He has been given a decade, I feel that was a fair amount of time.

If we had talent like the Bungles and won like the Steelers, you’d have a point

But we have multiple HOFers in their primes (including QB) and an overall roster rivaling any in the league. Competitive isn’t good enough this season. Maybe in rebuilding years like 2013, being competitive was good enough. This year has been Tomlin’s worst coaching job. This team, flat out, is far too good to settle for competitive. I’d be a lot more understanding if the team had less talent and lower expectations. It’s not our “birthright” to win, and you’re right, we’re not Cincinnati. But our talent is championship talent, and our team is better than Cincy’s and has been for years. It’s not about appreciation, it’s about at least meeting (or sometimes) exceeding expectations. These guys can’t do it with Tomlin. The 2018 season is an indictment on him. The stars aligned and he coughed it up in a variety of ways

I just want to know what you will or would say if the next Coach comes in here with Ben and totally lays an egg and destroys Ben's last couple years worse than you feel Tomlin is, would then you feel remorse for calling for Tomlin's head. I know it could go the other way and a new guy comes in wins a Superbowl with Tomlin's team, then goes 10 years without having a losing record but doesn't win another one without Tomlin's talent.

As frustrating as it can be the patience we have with coaches is one of the defining things for me with this franchise. Unlike Marvin in Cincy Mike has earned a least some respect. I honestly feel this defense has overachieved versus the talent we have a MLB and our #2 CB. I think we are also weak at Safety strictly from a leadership perspective not pure talent.

For me it comes down to wha we have i our Coach versus what we could get. I would have to blown away by the replacement to want to see him go. I don't want McCarthy or someone like him.

If we replaced him and the replacement was worse, which is a possibility, then I’d say we need someone else. I wouldn’t say “oh we treated Tomlin unfairly, shame we got rid of that guy”. We know what we have in him. A guy that can take superior talent to the playoffs (sometimes) and do nothing once there. That shouldn’t be the standard when you have multiple hall of fame level talented players. It is when you’re the Bungles or Titans, and we are not them. So if the replacement falls on his face, then we find another replacement, not yearn for Tomlin who we know won’t get us where we want to be.

Have you ever broken up with a woman who didn’t treat you well, then find another woman who also wasn’t wife material after her? Well.. you don’t yearn for the woman who didn’t treat you well, because you still remember how you felt when you with her. This new woman has her own problems, but instead of going back to the old problems, you get back on the horse, learn from both experiences, and find the right one.

I'm not going bezerk over Tomlin, or the idea the Steelers need to replace him.

I would like to see a fundamental change with the entire Defensive coaching staff, DC on down. This post-LeBeau hybrid defense needs to be chucked aside and a new DC brought in with free reigns to build a staff and implement a new system. Whatever we have with Butler has been so watered down since LeBeau left, the whole defensive scheme is running on fumes. In addition, serious upgrades are needed on D, which falls on Colbert. Lord knows they have the $$ with Bell's savings, sign 2-3 impact defenders under 30. The draft too needs to go heavy on D.

If indeed Ben is back with this high-powered O, it should be an all-hands-on-deck approach on rebuilding this once-proud Steelers defense.

I don’t think that applies. In my opinion Tomlin is not a bad coach or even mediocre. He is a good sometimes very good coach. I think our history and homer views of our talent level gives us unreal expectations and barring cheating we underestimate how hard it is to win the big one let alone compete consistently every year. With salary caps and free agency, egos suspensions and bad luck combined with 31 other teams who are not that far from each other ever year we have done incredibly well. If let go Tomlin will be hired in a heartbeat if he wants another job.

Tomlin isn’t the bad ex girlfriend he is the once hot now boring but good girl you just forget to appreciate because you keep having wandering eyes.

Holding onto a ok coach that won't get you a SB ring, just because you are afraid of what his replacement will look like. Is living in your fears.

That is ok if you are ok with participation trophies.

Again I am not ok with just participation trophies.

FInd us a coach that can get us a ******* ring.

I think some hold onto homer views of Tomlin continue despite the fact he has given nobody confidence that he can get this team back to a SB and win it.

There is no homer views of talent this team is talented enough.

They are in the top 10 of O and D statistically. But in game decision making is losing games.

This team isn't losing because of talent.

Scheme and coaching yes

talent no.

Maybe we just lack in leadership in general.
Ben has matured, and led somewhat.
Juju is growing into a leader by example.
I thought they'd rally behind Shazier.

Perhaps coaching is holding the team back.
If Tomlin doesn't go at least get rid of Butler.
The team doesn't really do outside hires. Which is what makes the Steelers the Steelers.

I get it; tradition and all.
But maybe it's time to start a new tradition and give the current roster and identity they can rally around and be proud of.
