Connor could return this week but Samuels proved he can play whether it be RB or WR. Interested on hearing your thoughts on how they should be used. Obviously this is a good problem to have but I don’t see Samuels as a 3rd down back because his pass blocking. I think it would be interesting to see them line up together in the backfield.

I'd like to see them both running plays together on the field with Samuels splitting out as a receiver after lining up heavy set.

he can pull off the 3rd down back role, and split series.

Conner needs to be eased back in so we know his ankle is not wobbly. Besides that, he's your bull. You want Conner to carry the load and you spell him with Samuels when he needs a break. If they have plays scripted specifically for Samuels then those will be good times to get him on the field and run those plays. He's shown he can be a good receiver for us.

If we can make teams pay with our TEs then it will open up the check down passing game.

I'd like to see Jay Sam get the nod again this week. He extends drives and earned it last week.

I dont think I'd worry about it too much. Connor said what it was the whole time. High ankle sprain. Lucky if he plays in a playoff game if they advance to one. Steelers medical staff is either deceptive or not very good.

I'm not sure Conner will be ready for the Saints game, has he been practicing this week?
A tandem rushing attack would be sweet utilizing both backs as a WR, HB or even a TE as an extra blocker. It would certainly keep the NO Defense on their toes. Damnit the options are there.
But this is of course if Conner is 100%; that remains to be seen.

What is the "TE"? Is that similar to the mythical "FB"?

Yep, Conner isn't going to be back in the regular season and it is a stretch to think he may even be ready for a potential playoff game.

Samuel's should see 9 to 12 snaps per game. Maybe more. Use the guy!

SORRY SteelerSask but I contend that the STEELERS medical staff is some of the best in the NFL and also in the United States as well. They have access to some of the best medical in the nation so this "STEELERS" medical staff being sub-par is baloney.

In Cope's stickey injury report (top of football only) it says he DNP today but is expected available 12-23 for NO game. I'd guess wait and see.......................

IMO our entire running attack las week was geared toward Jsams abilities. But its nice to see what he is capable of. A lot is going to depend on the opponents D, if they are very aggressive or stay at home.. IDK. Connor will be the work horse and Jsam will come in and line up in slots or wide or in the back field on 3rd downs. Only thing is , I cant see him staying in to block like conner does. I cant believe I said that. Last year that was conners weakness. Regardless. Jsam has established himself as the #2. And we will see him more often when conner comes back permanently.

I’d make sure Conner was 100%. If we lose this week we NEED to beat Cincy and Conner will be needed. JaySam has proved he’s very capable of hauling the load this week.

If we lose this week, it better be after a Rats loss to LA. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter who we play week 17.

Treat the situation like college-whomever has the better week of practice starts.

2 back, 2 wide, 1 tight

That date was my projection since he was limited last Fri, I assumed he'd be practicing this week. Now that's not the case. If he doesn't practice today, he pushed back another week. Though if the Steelers win in NO, they will rest him week 17.

I'm perfectly fine with Conner resting this game, and seeing if Samules can do it again.

I'm also fine with Conner when he's healthy and Samules being on the field at the same time. Remember, Samules can be a Tight End too.

Maybe Randy will have what looks like a 2 back set on one down, then have Samules line up as the 2nd TE on the next forcing the opposing defense to stay sharp and possibly giving us a mis match.

HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN

OUT

MINIMUM 4-6 weeks

Just like I perdicted

He's still 2-3 weeks away, at least, probably won't be 100% this season at all, it's the kiss of death for a RB

This is the most logical and beneficial. Gives the offense some mojo in the running back screens too. JSam as a pass threat or Conner to power through the line

The Samuels film thread

What do you see that impresses you? I see a guy with good vision, a player who hits the hole fast, accelerates well and can change directions quickly near top speed.

A big man, arms tackles won't stop him, and when the defender wraps him up, he can get extra yards or so before going down. He's also got enough speed to beat linebackers to the corner.
