IMO, Feiler has been a revelation this year. His power run blocking seemsto be as good as anyone on the team, and he has been solid in pass protection.

Feiler is an upgrade over Hubbard as the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]offensive tackle and possibly a long term replacement for the often injured Gilbert.

I’d like to see a larger sample of his work, but I’mimpressed.

Based on ?

Based on ?

Based on watching the games.

He gets a push on running no plays and has enough technique to not be a liability vs the pass.

Nearly impossible to bull rush due to his size and power. He’s got some aggression to game. Gets after people.

Marcus Gilbert is going nowhere.

Agree on Coach's point Feiler has been a revelation. Practice squad guy sticks around and has now started multiple games. Feiler's been playing well, above & beyond any reasonable expectation. Kudos to Munchak for turning him into a plug & play O-lineman in the NFL. We should be counting our blessings. Just line him up, hike the ball and never look back. Rare for a young lineman, Feiler's been rock n roll.

Feiler's been good, and Hawkens and Chukes have more upside. It's nice to have a lot of talent at a position that was a weakness after losing Hawkins for the year. Munch is doing an excellent job at making sure our backups are ready, and gives them the skills and knowledge needed to excel.

I can't remember a backup lineman yet that **** the bed, coming in to start for an injured starter, since Munch has been here. Most other teams, you attack the weak link, the new/ inexperienced starter. That ain't happening in Pittsburgh!

So not backed up by anything as usual, just your opinion.

I am not saying he isn't improved, but not so sure he has jumped Gilbert yet.

IR

Maybe he is, preseason will sort that out.

I included a few films clips, so you can judge for yourself. If he's even with Gilbert, the Steelers have options to trade him.

Cheaper and younger is great, when cheaper and younger is just as good as older, more expensive and often injured.

Hawkins is a long shot to make the team in 2019. The Steelers felt so highly of him, they spent a 3rd round pick on another tackle.

Why would he be a long shot? If Gilbert is moved, he is a need.

And just ran the numbers. Steelers save about $5M if he's cut next season, while only having to account for $1.7M in dead money. That's a business move I would make since he'd be entering his 9th season, final year of his contract, and the Steelers would have to decide whether to give him a new contract, play it out, or cut bait.

Final point, Gilbert currently is the 5th highest cap charge on the team.

Hawkins was suspect to me in the pre-seasons. He gets hurt too often for ayounger player, and the Steelers spent a 3rd round draft pick on his position. Ithink he's a long shot to make the team in 2019. If Gilbert stays, he's asure cut unless an injury hits.

I agree with you on the cap stuff. Gilbert might be tradable, but I'd like tosee more of Feiler play before making that move. For now, we are fine when Feiler starts. When Healthy Gilbert isan better than average starting right tackle. Those guys go for big bucksin free agency.

Actually Coach, there is already room on the roster for Hawkins. Or do you think Zack Banner is a better tackle?

Not convinced, but I am sure the Steelers would need to be the ones who are convinced.

With the extra Bell money and the yearly increase in cap. Not sure the FO will see the need to cut ties with Gilbert. Also they have that Shazier money free up as well...

They need another shut-down corner, a rock solid middle linebacker and a burner WR.

Wouldn't hurt to backfill RB, and who doesn't want to find a disruptive D-Lineman for the future?

I prefer they free agent the CB.

The rest can be a draft '/free agency combo -whichever...

I think the future at RT is Okorafor, with Feiler/Hawkins backing up.

I think Ramon Foster is nearing the end (though playing solid+ of late), not sure that isn't the big hole to fill this off-season. Is BJ Finney the long-term answer there? Perhaps Okorafor/Hawkins can play LG....

Foster has been very upfront with the Steelers. This time he's going for one final big contract (his last deal with team-friendly). He won't be getting it from the Steelers. Wish him the best but Foster will be on another roster in 2019. Gilbert is definitely at risk of being a cap casualty...he misses far too much time. How he plays when he returns from this latest injury will probably determine which way it goes.

Foster is getting up there in age but he's also playing the best football of his career IMO. I think I read a stat where the 2 Guards (he & DeCastro) have 2 penalties between them and 1 sack given up all year. And some OL can play a long time in the NFL at a high level. Andrew Whitworth (just one example) comes to mind. But B.J. Finney would be a fine replacement also IMO. His one game against Kansas City, he was playing like an All-Pro. I couldn't believe how good he looked.

Big Matt is starting again vs the Jaguars. I haven't missed Gilbert at all.

Okorafor hasn't shown me much. We'll see how he looks in year two. If he had to start now, he'd be picked apart

Foster's seems like a veteran leader type, but I think we've seen his best and Finney is just as good. Better I say on the move.

The man who needs to get PAID is Munchak, not Foster.
