LeVeon Bell.....Update.....NOT EXPECTED TO REPORT THIS SEASON.....

Cope mentioned the absolute best scenerio but from a business view the best would be to have him NOT show, tag & then trade and NOT match. Once he passes the 4pm EST. he will be irrelevant. ALL eyes on the Tuesday deadline.

I've said all along that it didn't bother me that he hasn't shown up so far. The rules say he doesn't have to be here until this Tuesday, so it is what it is. It will be interesting to see what effect this deal has on the next CBA negotiation though.

He will never recover the $14M he's going to forfeit. He will also never recover his reputation as a quitter.

I guess if this is true his pride would not allow him to be a backup to Conner

If they tag him next year so they can get draft picks, I won't find that vindictive whatsoever.

Moving forward with what the FO knows now. Compensation should be the number one goal in regards to Bell.

How do you need or respect Bell when all the game playing he has felt was important through this whole scenario. How can he be physically or mentally ready to help anyone. Bell is the one that should be scrutinized leaving this kind of money sitting on the table as he has shown his self absorbed, self important actions. The Steeler [layers and coaches do not need him showing up and being nothing but a distraction going into a really rough part of schedule. In all reality who cares what he gets, wants or where he goes, he has proven to the Steelers he has not respected them in giving him the opertunity to be a star in this league, has shown no consideration to the line that has allowed him to be looked at as a top runner. The Steelers will be here long after he is gone away and forgotten.

I think that it will have such a profound effect that the RB position will have it's own seperate set of rules. AS is the prime of a running back could be tagged out of relevancy.

TOTALLY agree slash and in my vindictive comment I was meaning the FANS themselves and the vindictiveness directed his way. We all know BELL is a douche but to want him injured for life or not to be able to get work ever,...........seems a little vindictive to me. I just want what benefits the STEELRS the most and BELL to move on.

Listening to talking heads this morning and they are saying, without having a hearing or a ruling, that we would have to pay him the higher salary next year on the tag. I say bullshit. He did not have a contract this year so next year would still be the 2nd tag, if he even signs that one. I would at least want a court ruling before just transition tagging him. I want him to sit another year and then transition tag him just to screw with him like he screwed with us this year.

Rashard Mendenhall says Hi. :waving:

Exactly.

Yeah you always have those idiots from each fan base that wish injury.

Their wish should be compensation, then not having to deal with the tool anymore.

And you are right it is vindictive, but those few don't represent the many.

Never wish injury on another human being, unless they are a rapist and a murderer. Then they can get what is offered.

If they tag him, it will go to court to determine which number he falls under. I suspect that after all the huffing and puffing, the NFL and the NFLPA will "settle" on something like:
1. Bell's tag will operate as if it's the second tag since he was not under contract this year and did not receive credit for an accrued season
2. The tag value will be based upon THIS YEAR'S numbers, not those from 2017. So, there will be an uptick in the tag amount. Not sure what that will be since I rely on guys like Cope to tell me anything cap related. lol

Under that scenario, the Steelers should tag his *** ASAP and tell him that he and his agent are free to seek trade offers from other teams.

Bell returning to Pittsburgh without the intention of signing is not out of line with the Bullshit he's pulled before. Remember, he: 1) Hinted that he'd be in camp and never showed. 2) Apparently told his teammates and hinted through twitter that he'd show up before the first game; again a no show 3) Hinted he'd be here right during the bye week .... nada. He was doing that **** in order to pump his own ego. Classic narcissist. I'm glad the bullshit is over.

And his agent said this would be his best season statistically. I can deal with wanting to get what you can but cannot deal with the deceit, lies and building false hope. NFL GM’s beware! This is who he and his agent are.

He gets a full year off next year too. By NFL rule he can’t play for another team for a full season after reneging on this years contract.

He never signed a contract, so this rule doesn't apply to him at all. The Steelers own his rights, and that's all at this point.

Well, he's still Steeler property next year. If I understand correctly, his tag amount this year is automatically 120% of last year's salary and his tag amount next year will be 120% of this year's salary. The loophole they apparently found was that he gets the third year tag salary (120%+120%) even if he doesn't play this year at all. I think if he takes two full seasons off then no one will want him at all and for sure not at top money.

I suspect that possibly the goal of him and his agent is to piss off the Steelers enough that they release him so he's a FA that doesn't need a draft pick(s) as compensation. Having to give up a 1st or 1st and 3rd pick essentially lowers his cash value. Another team would be more likely to sign him for more money when they don't have to give up draft picks.

There is no loophole, these people reporting these things do not understand the rules or the CBA at all. They are grasping at straws to try and figure out what Bells plans are. Straight from the CBA "“Prior Year Salary” means the Salary (as defined 46 in this Subsection) for the last League Year of the player’s most recently negotiated Player Contract". He didn't sign the tender, so it would revert back to the original contract that THIS franchise tag was based off of (ie the same exact amount), there is no 120%+120% magical number that sky rockets his salary on the tag. The only difference, and this "loophole" that reporters clearly can't read correctly, is that the FO can't tag him with the EXCLUSIVE only the NON EXCLUSIVE franchise tag. Which honestly, benefits us more than it does Bell. While the compensation is set at a first and third round picks, those picks can actually be negotiated between the new team and the old team. But his tag number would remain exactly the same.''

Being a Steeler fan since the first year they made the playoffs -right before their sbowl runs--so 40+----buh bye Leveon--you recall how many games you missed because youre a pothead????Guess you dont feel at all like the Steelers had your back ever. You always a-1 in your own mind---go get your money--buys a lot of the weeeeeed--dopehead. You need to get tested a whole lot more now--esp coming out of Miami

Might be news to some but it never made sense for him to return unless it was early in the season and take the franchise tag. But I just expected him to be out all season since early October.

Laying off for a year and hanging out on a beach for most of it then get ready for a full season in the NFL? Come on. He's got to start now. Don't give me the he's staying in shape crap. Next year he'll sign with the NY Jets and get his money because they have stacks of it just sitting around and their known for grabbing any Steelers cast off.

Then why would he even bother going back to the Burg?? Was he trying to negotiate something with the team with the hopes of reporting? Was he conducting other business??
Because he has a complete idiot for an agent. He's got to be done as an agent after this $14,000,000 screw up.

Adios Me’veon. You’ll be the next Eric Green once you find another team.

I agree with Insanity's interpretation.

This isn't a loophole at all. It's what the NFLPA wants to be true. This will go to arbitration, and the clearly written clause of the tag value being 120% of 'the last contract signed" is verbiage specifically inserted in case of a holdout.

The league doesn't want top players holding out, ever. No reason why there would be any mechanism to have this happen, that doesn't severely hamper that players marketability.

Reminds me of Mike Wallace turning down big money from the Steelers to chase free agency. Guy was never the same after and a kid named Antonio Brown rose to the occasion and got paid big time.

James Conner, that's your money now. I hope the Steelers take good care of you.

I definitely try to get something for him through a tag. The position Bell put the team in, the Steelers deserve to get value returned.
