Written By: Logan Leslie @L_TIMES_TWO Last night the Steelers yet again disappointed us to begin the game, reeled us back in by half time and then broke our hearts in the second half. This is quickly becoming the expected norm by those of us who bleed black and gold. There is no one individual to […]

I can’t remember any coach having this much talent (I’m not talking about this year’s d) coming up short so many times. Other coaches have won Super Bowls with much less talent-especially on offense.

The fact that not one of these coaches was fired today shows Rooney's committed to losing. Butler, Porter, Bradley....
Owner committed to losing = Coaches committed to losing = players committed to losing
Sad day for Steelers!

They aren't going to fire anyone during the season. I wouldn't expect them too. Let the season play out and see where you are at the end. This is a horribly coached team but Tomlin isn't going anywhere. A coach or two will be fired at the end of the season if they don't make the playoffs and Tomlin will be back... bank on it.

Another owner perhaps, but I can't see the Rooney's firing Tomlin.

Yup. Last year our defense washed us out of the playoffs, so they fired the OC. Now, that's leadership.

Wow, I forgot that 2 of the 3 playoff wins since the last SB were against backup quarterbacks...who were never any good.

Never a losing season, yet almost always underachieving.

I vote yes, but have no faith in Rooney to do what needs to be done.

If he avoided getting fired after the Jags playoff loss last year then he is untouchable.

So let's compare Harbaugh vs Tomlin. Harbaugh has rebuilt the Ravens at least twice.

The current Ravens team has very few players remaining from the Super Bowl team. Yet the defense is stout and the offense is playing well. Losing season? Yes. Injuries. Tons. But they beat the Steelers twice in their worst season.

Tomlin has been the Steelers coach for 10 years now. The defense has not improved, and the offense goes as Ben goes. Take Ben off the team last year and they are easily 6-10 if not worse. Losing season? Not yet. Improvement? Nope, particularly on defense, where the highest draft picks have been spent. Ben may be declining and if so, the losses will match.

Tomlin must have really sold Dan and Artie a hell of a bag of goods. How can Artie not be seeing through this charade and overrated coach. We’ve done no more than win a few AFC North titles the last 8 seasons only to wash out in the playoffs with all this talent. You change coordinators, assistant coaches but as the article states there remains one constant, Tomlin. It’s going to get worse unless they clean house with this staff from Tomlin on down.

A bad year this season would put him on a hotter seat next year but as far as this year goes... he aint getting fired, even if we lose the rest of the games

Although it won't never happen, if the Steelers are 2-4-1 going into their bye week, I'd like to see them take the best offer for Bell when he signs his tender, and fire Tomlin on the spot.

Promote Mike Munchak to interim head coach. Then we can finish out the season with two problems eliminated, and have our pick of the litter for our next head coach.

A more likely scenario is Butler, who Tomlin hired is his scapegoat for the season. The Tomlin man’s contract is expires in 2020. The Steelers might have extra difficulty firing Tomlin as their family name is attached to his hire. ( Rooney Rule ). A more realistic expectation is to simply let Tomlin's contract expire, and hire someone else. This way they didn't fire him.

He shouldn't be with the Steelers next season.

Who's responsible for the 2 DL front? is it him or is it Butler? In any case Butler should be fired too, if Tomlin is the one calling the shots, why have a DC that doesn't do anything?

Vader, more than likely you have hit the outcome correctly. If a drastic move was to be made it would be a two part. 1) fire tomlin & couple assistance's while promoting Muncheck to HEAD COACH and new hires 2) instantly fire BELL with or without compensation and put other players on notice. THESE two things come from management with Munch giving the player address direct to the players and publicly. TAKE any question away as to consequence of actions. This might improve this season but definitely would go a long way to improve next season.

PS GREAT factual article and thanks to the AUTHOR. SteelerNation.com does a fantastic job in all aspect of STEELERS info.

Absolutely, positively, 100% without a shadow of a doubt, it is time to FIRE MIKE TOMLIN. The team wins in spite of his piss poor coaching. A team with this much talent on both sides of the ball would not look so unprepared and outcoached week after week with a more thorough head football coach.

Its disgusting how unprepared this team is to start games. They make poor to minimal in game adjustments and when they find something that works they stop using it. I'd have fired him after Week 2 but that's just me. The standard of being outcoached and under performing stars is done. Lets move on

Butler was LeBeau's protege and LeBeau never ran a 2DL formation outside of prevent D at the end of a game to prevent a deep pass. Go look at film from Tomlin's year in Minny and his time at TB, in both places they ran almost this same exact defense. This is Tomlin's defense and that is blatantly obvious. As for Butler, he is nothing more than a scape goat for Tomlin, when the defense fails he blames Butler, fires Butler, and he preserves his job.

This 3 coaches in 50 years is great and all, shows stability and no knee jerk reactions but the other end of that is complacency. Tomlin is too comfortable in his job and he's entirely to arrogant and proud to learn from his mistakes. The guy has not learned from past mistakes and refuses to do so. Case in point the ridiculous challenge Sunday night on where the ball was spotted that was never, ever going to be overturned. That's just one small sampling but the list is almost endless with him.

No, I don't think Rooney will fire him after this season regardless of how it ends. There's this blind fricking loyalty that Rooney shows Tomlin and its just mind numbing. Tomlin has become way too comfortable knowing how secure his job is and this has not translated well to the Steelers current team. Its clear that Tomlin is calling the defensive shots and has great input on the offensive game plan if you want to call it that. Nothing s working! The guy has never been and will never be an X and O type coach. He's what Bradshaw sad he was, a cheerleader and nothing more and I'm afraid we're all stuck with this crap.

So people bitched about Lebeau running to much zone here, even though there were some saying Tomlin was getting more involved in the defensive play calling while Lebeau was still here. Lebeau leaves, goes to Tennessee where they used more man coverage than pretty much every team, and that same season we ran more zone than any team, and it wasn't close.
Hmm coincidence, hell no, Lebeau got away from Tomlin and got to run his D, Tomlin got the legend out so he could run his D.

I look for Ben Roeth to hang up the cleats after this season. Once he does CMT will have to develop a rookie QB. The Rats are already utilizing their rook QB with positive outcome.
Tomlin will have to own the product and they'll be no Ben to bail his arse out anymore.

Has it been 25-30 years yet?

Damn sure feels like he's been here that long.

Oh, he's not even to 20 years...

Definitely not time yet then...come on and give him a little time to get his type of players in here.

He gets at least another decade, meanwhile scape goats heads will roll year after year

Tomlin wanted his defense from the start but he didn't have the people because the Steelers were a 3-4 defense and because he didn't want to ruffle any feathers his first few years. A few years before LeBeau left Tomlin started tinkering with the defense. I believe he made it known to LeBeau that he wanted more control over the D and he wanted to start implementing some of his cover-2 ****. After DL left Tomlin's fingerprints are all over the defense now. No more powerful 3-4 NG. Now we have a weak DL, CBs that can't cover and LBs that can't cover or get to the QB. It's disgusting.
