Schefter reporting Steelers are now listening to trade offers for Bell (jets maybe)

Yes, and I was for using our first round pick to get him. Brees was drafted in the SECOND round. I confused the Chargers with the Saints, as when I think of Brees I think of the team he won the super bowl with, but my point stands. The Kordell years were a waste. We should have moved on much sooner and if we drafted Brees would have likely reached the super bowl sooner.

What point? That Kordell had to go? So whose fault was it that he was still there? Coaching staff? Before he imploded, he was winning games...and throwing bad passes. After the fiasco in that playoff loss with the picks in the end zone there was no hope left. So was it Chin’s coaching? Or player not performing?

there can be only one to blame at that point, though it's possible they're both to blame.

how can one word stir so much ****

I have no idea. It's been so long I don't even remember who was fighting about it or what it was about. I remember them arguing about when some happens "until" something else happens.... still don't remember what it was.

I always blamed Cowher for Kordell. That was my biggest beef with Cowher. Kordell had one good year and most thought he was going to the hall of fame. Kordell as slash was good. Kordell as QB was not.

2001 was another good year for Kordell. That’s when they decided to let him play ball and utilize his strengths again rather than make him into what wasn’t working.

It wasn't Cowher that said Heinz field will be known as "The house that Kordell built". When the boss wants the QB you keep the QB.

Don't forget that Cowher kept running off OC's every year and often replaced each one with another who was even worse.

Steeler Nation: "Iss OC Ray Sherman sucks an' at, he's a jagoff."
Coach Chin: "Hold my beer. Here's Kevin Gilbride."

I was convinced kordell had blackmail pictures on cowher. He never recovered from his epic meltdown in the AFCCG vs Denver. Bill Romanowski really got to him mentally.

I never blamed Bill. Kordell was hell bent on being a QB. I even had a brief convo with Kordell would he change things up if he could have a do over. He said something about the pay scale of a QB in comparison.

So there is only one finger to point here.

Bingo. The only coordinators who really understood they had an athlete playing QB was Chan Gailey and Mike Mularkey. They understood he wasn’t bright enough to do multiple progressions but was elusive and a fantastic deep ball...had an amazing amount of worm burners for his short And medium passes.

Were you there? The Kordell has to go posters were even in number to those defending him. It was obvious who was holding the team back...

The chin had many good seasons with O'Donnell, Tomzack, Miller, Stewart and Graham. Only a top coach could work around a bad collection of QB's and keep going 10-6 to13-3. If Tomlin had these jokers, he would have been fired long ago as the margin of error was very thin.

Well -- O'Donnell wasn't that bad. Rooney was just too cheap to retain him. Back then the Steelers lacked extra revenue suites at Three Rivers.

Cowher as I remember had an issue with the GM, Tom Donahoe. I'm not sure who made the Stewart pick, it was likely Donahoe.

An OC is really limited with a bad QB. Bill Walsh wouldn't have done well with Kordell either. The best solution was either to retain O'Donnell in free agency ( Rooney was too cheap ), or to draft a QB in round one during the tenure of Tomzack, Stewart, Graham, Miller and Maddox. These guys started too many games...

I blame the GM. I remember the 1990's and early 2000's well. Everyone and their mother would say the Steelers have a great team, if they only had a quarterback.

There is another possibility with Bell. He just does not want to play football at all this year.

I tend to think will. Assuming Bell does, the Steelers who never denied they were listening to offers, can let Bell sign the tender, then trading him as long as they are getting more than a 3rd round compensatory pick. Teams willing to trade will want Bell to report for the 5th game of the season.

The best time for a trade I think is Monday to limit distractions for the week. The Jets, Colts, or Texans make the most sense.
