Le’Veon Bell: Greedy or Misunderstood?

Just to clear the air, I want BELL as a STEELERS player but NOT at a price that cripples us for years to come.

Agreed. That is really what everyone here wants also for the most part.

We saw how that worked out for the Ratbirds.

Just be clear, I think Bell is overvalued and overpaid. A selfish teammate for sure and one of the least explosive backs in the game who starts. Since when does 4.0 yards per carry and being stuffed in 3rd and short or 4th and 1 in the playoffs demand 17 million a year?

Williams ( past his prime ) for a fraction of what Bell is asking for did nearly well. If Bell could sign and be traded with draft picks, and say a 2nd string back I'd take that deal.

Until then, you go James Conner and Jaylen Samuels.

While I agree that a RB who doesn't break big runs better at least be great at short yardage.. and yes he struggled vs Jax in that department. I think we can still agree that Bell has generally been a damn good short yardage back throughout his career. I can't hold the 4th down toss sweep against him - that was one of the worst play calls I've ever seen the Steelers make

Well, Bell had struggled in short yardage at times last season running between the tackles.....I guess they figured they would try to run him outside. Hopefully, they used the QB sneak early in this season. To show the opposition that it is at least in our playbook.

But wouldn't that hurt our more fragile than t*mmy b*y china doll QB who is declining in ability with age??????? HHaaaahhha

I hear exactly what you are saying and hope Rany has some input on that.

We would do well to get him signed before Gurley.

The $16M per year that Sammy ******' Watkins got has completely screwed the free agent market. All these 2nd tier guys are getting PAID and it's no wonder that guys are sitting out franchise tags in the same way that Kirk Cousins did. why wouldn't you at this point?

Kirk Cousins sat out franchise tags? He got paid $50M for 2 years of work playing under franchise tags, then he got PAID!

I hope Bell plays his *** off this year and gets what he wants next off-season as a FA. If soneone deserves it it just might be him....as a fan though I wish he would sign the tag sooner rather then later. I understand it is his right not to sign it per the CBA. Would be nice if he would at least show up for the last 2 preseason games. Get a few reps in during camp and the games.

I would be all about giving Bell the money he wants, but man, a contract like that sets the franchise back quite a bit. There are holes to fill on defense, and signing a running back for twice market value would severely hamper the Steelers' ability to do much else.

Over the last two off seasons there has been a constant stream from the media regarding Le’Veon Bell‘s contract situation. For many fans like myself, this dialogue within the media is frustrating and despite what Bell may think almost nobody within the Steelers fanbase would actually like to see him in another uniform, all of […]

You're right. I meant sat through them - just waited them out effectively.

Bell is a great asset to the Steelers offense, but I do think he's replaceable.
The Steelers do have other needs for the team. I'd pass up on the huge contract. The Steelers aren't budging either.

JULY 16th is inching it's way closer and closer..............................

Agree. If it weren't for the salary cap I'd say pay him what he wants.

Don't put all your money in one basket.

How did that work out for the Ravens with Flacco?

Said it before and I'll say it again

10mil base pay, 2mil bonus if play full season, 2mil bonus if win rushing title, 2mil bonus if 4th in receptions guaranteed 3 years. That's 48 mil nut he will have to earn it.

I know he would never sign that but I wouldn't pay anything more then that.

I think Bell is great and all but I honestly am ready to move on from his drama that seems to be a yearly thing. The trade of Bryant helped in this area also. AB has his issues. Looks like he might have finally gotten "it" in his head about the word TEAM. A shame that we have had these great players in Ben's last stretch of his career and they have been me me first players. You can have less talent on a team and win it all if you play as a team first mentality. And you can have the most talent on a team but if all the players are looking out just for themselves week in and week out you can win nothing. So while losing Bell might give us less talent it also just might make us a better team.

Very well said stillwright as I'm a very strong advocate of TEAM 1st play. Anytime one of the "cogs" go independently as to "ME FIRST" the entire team suffers. Wes see it all the time, Lebron James comes to mind in this case.......... He plays for himself and not the team. I've seen many a less talented team play and win because of the team first. It takes the right COACH to instill that's into the players and some coaches are more successful at that than others. Chuck Noll was very successful in that respects. Coach Tomlin needs work in that regards. Bell is selfish and greedy, no way around it.

I'm sorry but if the nfl can pay elliot like a boss and he hasn't done half of what bell has for his team. Than Bell needs paid. Its not greed when the nba pays out over a billion dollars on the first day of free agency. Bell brings alot to the table when you got other running backs out there just straight out sucking week in and workout. Big Baller deserves his cut of the pie.

last i saw elliot was on a 24.5mil contract with about 6mil / yr. highest paid back in the league gets 8 mil / yr. we offered bell 14 mil. that is 1.75x more than the highest paid guy. that is a more than generous offer. To put it in perspective if the highest paid Qb is making 30 mil / yr that would be like ben or the next up and coming qb wanting 52 mil / yr. what bell wants is absurd

Tick-Tock.....9 days to decide whether to be a legend or fade off into obscurity.

And to answer the original question, Yes, and No.

When you ask for over double($17 miil) more than the next guy...well that is the defination of GREED. Sorry dude. You need to pull out the Webster. And let's be honest. Bell has changed his demand frequently. I honestly think the Steelers FO thought they could work out a long term deal, but when you change your demands as often as Bell has what is the FO suppose to do? Stand firm with what they think is a more than fair offer. Bell will get him his. No worries there RudeCane...but it will be next off-season no this one and with a different team.

Then he can get it somewhere else. It seems obvious at this point that the Steelers and Bell won't reach a deal. Personally, I hope they don't. He can set another franchise back 10 years.
