A good read.

I'm not overly excited about him at this point. Ben obviously is not stepping aside ( right away, anyway ) for him and anything can happen during the next couple years. I'll sit back and watch this kid progress in the system ( or not ) and see what the future brings.

It is way too early for me to get excited about any of them. I'll look forward to camp as always though.

I like the kid. And let us see what happens in 2 years unless Ben signs an extension. What if Ben wants paid top $$$ for these years 3,4 and 5(that he says he might want to play) and we have another option at QB in Mason...do we let Ben walk? Do we let Ben hold us guessing on a year by year basis? I don't know. I don't even know if the Rooney's know. Time will tell.

As long as Ben is Ben they will let him play. Rudolph will have to prove it on the field. I am sure he goes to camp as the number 4.

I am excited for all the prospects as I am every year. I enjoy seeing the little things in camp. Gives me a idea what to expect short term moving forward.

If this pick makes Ben focus and wants to play 3-5 more years, its worth it based on that. But I think Rudolph at the very least will be better than Landry Jones, and Dobbs, who most saw as a waste of a draft pick.

Coach, who is this Hobbs you speak of? Surely not the infamous Roy Hobbs? Wonder if he brought his Wonder Boy bay too?

That ****** letterman swooped down and changed the D to H. Every since I watched the Electic Company as a kid, I knew that guy was up to no good.

Ben will play as a Steeler until he retires. He has earned that. They will offer him, as I mentioned in another thread, a good deal with a nice signing bonus. The salaries will be back-loaded so, he can retire when his skills deplete and the team won't get hit with too much dead money (other than the pro-rated signing bonus).

It’ll be good having someone push ben he’s been the **** of the walk since his rookie year and he knows better than anyone it only takes one injury and bang “its down the road for Freddie” anymore five pick games backed up with a “I guess I don’t have anymore” could sent his high priced *** to the bench nothing wrong with having ben looking over his shoulder... fear is the greatest motivator look at the liberals quivering in their boots election nite haha... im just piss pulling I like ben but draft time is the time to look to the future and Rudolph looked too good to pass up and He fits what we do... we’re the controversy will be is who’s bens back up now fans will want to see big Rudy not ****** Landry... go steeeeelerrrrsss!!!!

Been awhile since I heard that expression. Yeah he can thank Tommy Gun for being the **** of the walk in his rookie year. Otherwise he probably doesn't see the start until year two.

Coach donated his testicles so it won't do any good to bust his balls over petty stuff such as this. Save it for something BIG,....like maybe................. The draft or something....... AND he has a point to his post. If this draft of Rudolf ONLY conquers getting BEN to play harder and longer then the pick was well worth it. I see Mason conquering more than just "opening Ben's eyes".

Salute the nation

The drafting of Rudolph was never intended to motivate Ben to play harder and longer but it was a measure to secure his successor.

Of course that wasn't the intention. But if that is a result, the Steelers are better for it.

I forgot how productive Landry was in college. Those are some impressive stats compared to this year's draft class.

I think Rudolph will end up being the backup this season... always nice to have a good backup.

And Landry was in the same gaudy stat passing offense as Rudolph if Im correct. And it took Landry several years to look decent as a pro. Diffent style offense and completly different players. Throw out all stats. Lets see if the kid is farther along than Jones and Dobbs in his Rookie season. All that matters.

I don't think they saw Landry or Hobbs-Dobbs as a franchise QB.So they went fishing thinking Rudolph had potential to be one. The size of the fish to still be determined.

A good read.

Holy cow!

Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it.
According to the tables in the link, Landry Jones was a touchdown machine on 3rd down!

Jones with 41 touchdown tosses on 3rd down,,,in second place Rudolph with 28.

Mayflower, Raisin, Arnold....and Hobbs not even close.

Dobbs, you know the worst rated passer of the pre-season who threw the ball say over 20 times.

Waste of a 4th round pick, and you can take that to the bank.

Jones is an okay back up. On a .500 team without multiple pro bowlers around him, he'd struggle.

Dobbs not Hobbs will get another shot this summer so we shall see how much the young Mr. Dobbs not Hobbs has learned and if he can translate that knowledge to the field.

Dobbs, who actually faced 1st string defenses almost the whole preseason while other rookies were facing 2nd and 3rd string defenses, or grocery baggers?

The one thing I do know is the font office is loyal as long ad your performing no matter what the cap space is they'll find a way to pay .. That being said Big Ben will stay as long as he's committed to.. They will give him an extension.. Mason is on a 4 yr deal.. Unless Big Ben has a major injury it's his job till HE'S READY TO LEAVE..
