Steelers Expected to Franchise Tag Bell

I apologize..I've been married to his mom since he was in the 9th grade but I don't like telling people that because to me and his mom it's really not a big deal. We are more proud of him going back to finish his Degree at MSU.

As you should be.

Best advice you can give him is

1 The rap career won't happen and they will drain his money.
2 Steelers won't overpay. If he want to see his worth ask for the non exclusive franchise tag.Really a true way to test "value".

I know his background being the fanatic I am. I know he came from a very poor environment. I am sure that factors in on him wanting a certain amount. But the Steeler do not break the bank, it wouldn't benefit a team trying to win a championship.

And dragging this out doesn't do either side any good. As if you come out of the gates out of playing shape due to a hold out, you are hurting yourself and the team.

So you can see both sides to this situation.

So is Bell retiring then?
God speed and hope you find what you want Bell

Remember when the Steelers re-signed an aging Greg Lloyd and then the next season lost Chad Brown in free agency? This reminds me of that.

I doubt he leaves that much money on the table.

Bell isn't at the aging point though.

I agree with slash. they have a history letting players go instead of paying them

But they do pay well for those they want to keep. And what they are offering your son, I am willing to bet it is a rich contract. So it isn't like they are UNDER paying him. Last year that one year tag payed him well. That was a decent chunk.

Do you really think the Steelers didn't make a fair offer last off-season? And their offer could only have been bigger this off-season. More than double the salary of the next RB.

That is my biggest point it isn't like the aren't offering him a decent sized contract, he just wants more.

Seriously Anthony tell him the non exclusive tag will clear up any value questions. Have him request that.

He can see what teams will offer under that tag.

He did hint at retirement if tagged.
Sadly I think this is the end of the Bell era in Pittsburgh.

Dude is amazingly talented. But the Steelers have other needs for the salary cap.

After reading his statement there is no way Bell is not playing week one. He hedged so much and said flat out he would have a hard time leaving the tag money on the table. Furthemore he has also said while they have not reached an agreement and probably won't this week he said they are still closer than last year. I would be shocked if
A. he sits more than just Training camp
B. that he does not get a deal done.

Call me crazy, but I am betting Bell's agent went over that with him. Or maybe not.

Yep. I always liked Bell. He turned into the best RB in the game. And let us be honest.....there are teams out there swimming in cap space. One, two, three or four or so might pony up some crazy money if he hit Free Agency. I know Bell stated this isn't about money, but reestablishing the RB market. Well the contract offered last season would have did that. I can only imagine the Steelers offered more this time around. So this isn't about reestablishing the RB market. Let's call it what it is. Bell wants to be the highest RB ever paid. So Bell sign your tag a few weeks into training camp and hopefully you along with the rest of the team will lift number 7 above your shoulders in your last season in the Burgh. So get to work WITH your teammates this time around. Thanks

Week 1 has nothing to do with the tag money....he could hold out the first 10 game and report for the last 6 and still get the entire tag price of $14.4 mill. Will he do that? Probably not. If he wants to win he will report to camp before the first week of the regular season like he did last season. That's just a selfish move. Hopefully Bell makes this season about the TEAM and not about him being paid....which by the way he will be once he signs the tag.

just look at Pouncey, AB, DeCastro, Ben, the Steelers aren't cheap, they pay premium for their drafted stars. Bell has his head up his ***, he can't recognize a good offer? well your loss pal, now gtfoh

Seriously. There's a reason they're up against the salary cap limit year after year yet some teams are $30m+ under.

As I detailed in another thread, if the guaranteed money was $30m, that was only $3m more than he could expect to get from the two tags. Taking into account taxes, etc. it was, probably, ~$1.5m more.

He was willing to bet that $3m that he wouldnt get hurt.

He would've been the highest RB by far, his guaranteed money was almost as much as Freemans entire contract, that's on the RB side.

Now Bell thinks he should be paid as a wr too. That offer would've made him a top 10 paid wr, and his guaranteed money wouldve been top 5 wr guaranteed money.
