Steelers Expected to Franchise Tag Bell

If the Steelers don’t franchise Bell, I predict he ultimately signs (with whomever) for considerably less than he would have received under the franchise tag. Franchising Bell is like something Daniel Snyder would have done 20 years ago when he repeatedly tried to buy a championship.

In other words, he's not worth his contract. ( 14.5M in 2018 ) I agree, but there are 31 other teams out there...

Bell is not worth the money or the risk. Let him go or trade him. With the cap space, we can re-load the defense, and draft his replacement or sign one for 1/5 of the price in free agency.

Bell can be cancer and a distraction. I still think he's an off the field risk. I promise whoever is running the ball will average better than 4.0 per rush.

Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock.

I expect a tag, the one that allows another team to take him for two first-round picks.
Name another RB that leads his team in rushing and is 2nd on the team for passing yards.

Still waiting

This is why you aren't a GM of a team.

The only way you do what you are suggesting is if you have a succession plan in place. Currently there is none. Connor is a bit of an unknown, and there is no FA available that would even come close to replicating the skill set Bell has for this offense.

I see no team willing to give up 2 first rounders on a RB worth one only one contract due to age and miles.
Name me one RB that leads his team in rushing yards and is 2nd on the team in receiving yards.

I get what you are saying, but Bell isn't worth what he wants. Someone will probably give it to him, but it probably won't be the Steelers. Bell's best attributes are catching out of the backfield and blitz pick up. As a runner, he is a dime a dozen, just slower. I don't know if pass catching and blocking are worth the 9 million he wants over the next highest paid guy. 12-14 million is excessive. I don't see any team paying him 17 million a year.
Are those the only attributes you see then that lets me know you don't know football and probably never coached a foot all team. Maybe you should go back and do more film study.

Try telling all these players that have to take pills in the morning just to get up or not being able to play with their grand kids because their bodies are so beat up how much money they are worth. At some time they won't be playing football so what then. Why not get the big bucks now so you can relax later in life. Do we not do the same thing on our jobs but at a lower scale. How many.of us believe we are worth more than what pur boss is paying us.

Bell wasn't 2nd on the team in passing yards...Bell had 655 receiving yards but Juju was 2nd with 917. Bell was 2nd in receptions. But I'll play along still...

Alvin Kamara/Mark Ingram. Ingram led the team in rushing and was #3 in receiving. Kamara was #2 on the team in rushing and #2 in receiving. So there we have 2 RBs on the same team in the top 3 in the team in receiving. They also both averaged much higher YPC than Bell.

Kamara's receiving numbers - 81 catches for 826 yards and 5 TDs
Bell's receiving numbers - 85 catches for 655 yards and 3 TDs

Which is exactly why some people on here are proposing using 2 "cheaper" RBs to get very similar, if not better production for a much lower cost.

And since you asked:
-Todd Gurley led the Rams in BOTH rushing and receptions
-LeSean McCoy led the Bills in BOTH rushing and receptions
-Carlos Hyde led the 49ers in BOTH rushing and receptions
-Melvin Gordon led the Chargers in rushing and was 2nd in receptions, just like Bell.
-McCaffrey led the Panthers in receptions by 17
-Duke Johnson led the Browns in receptions by 41

Hardly as rare of a feat as you make it seem. And aside from Gurley, no one I would pay even half as much as Bell is asking for.

Yes but how many games did they achieve that in. How much more would Bell had had if he had been playing the entire seasons.

I know for a fact that the Steelers told Bell that when he retires as a RB he can resign as with them as a receiver but none of you knew that. Not one other team has offered that to their running back and trust me I'm not talking out of my ***.

LOL....Funny stuff.

And I'm sure when it is time to renew Todd Gurley contract he will asking for more too and we will all be debating what he is worth too.

I don't mind Bell asking for as much as he wants...Doesn't mean I want the Steelers to sign him at Bell's asking price. He is one player on this team and giving him even this tag money will hurt us in other areas. I would rather spend the money somewhere else and make our team better in other areas and sign a FA RB and draft one.

But when Antonio Brown ask for more even though his contract was already done it was ok to pay him and not saying he doesn't deserve it because he does. All I'm saying is none of us unless you are a NFL player knows what these guys are going through especially having their bodies beat up so much. Hell we got ex players now that can bearly remember there name.

Too be honest with all of you and this might contradict my argument but on the real with so many people starving in this world and struggling is any man really worth what they are getting paid

So we can expect him to show up for practice the day before the 1st regular season game.

OR week 10 of the NFL season..................................................................

Salute the nation

I thought we spent to much on AB....In the end you only can pay the big money to so many players before it hurts your team. Ben and AB are getting paid. Heck...Bell is going to get $14.4 mill this season after making $12 million plus last year. Not too shabby. I just wish I knew the numbers of each side. Just curious.

Just crazy money being handed out anymore.

Holy ****....that's funny right there. I bet you didn't know that the Steelers told Big Ben after he retires as a QB they will resign him as Tight End with an option to hold on Field Goals. Trust me, not talking out my ***!

Lol...the difference between me and you is that I'm a lot closer to LeVeon then you all think and you are just a fan of Big Ben...

I don't mind them giving Bell a big contract as long as the cap hit for the next 3 years is $11m or less. preferably, $10m.
