Alex Smith Traded to Redskins

Actually a pretty good move on their part. Stop gap QB who can get them some wins and fits their scheme.
Basically a cheaper franchise tag, 17mil. instead of what would be 25mil(somewhere around there.)
They'll definitely be drafting a QB.

Evidently KC must think Mahomes is ready. Alex Smith is that QB who won't get you over the hump. Doesn't have that KILL SHOT drive in him. This last season he excelled past his limits with the fear of Mahomes on his ***. He won't have anything in Washington to push him like that......................... Best move for Mahomes weather he realizes it or not.

Salute the nation

It's the right move for KC. They drafted Mahomes to be the future. He started a game and looked competent so it's time to see what he can do. Andy Reid did the same thing sitting McNabb behind Doug Pederson for a year.

You can't keep Smith because it will divide the locker room. Same reason the 49ers had to get rid of Smith after they decided to start Crapernick. They would have had a QB controversy as soon as the NFL figured out that college offense.

For the Redskins, it must just be a money move. Cousins would have been too expensive to franchise again and they obviously don't think he's a franchise QB. Good for them for not simply forking over $100 Million to a guy you're not sure about just because he's your starting QB and doing an OK job.

It would be a total Jets move to go after Cousins now.

PFT now says Chiefs getting a 3rd round pick and an un-named player. Skins giving Smith $94 Million for 4 years with 71 guaranteed.

Also reporting the Browns tried to trade for Smith, That would have been awful. Not because Smith is great but because it likely would have meant Browns taking Saquon Barkley at pick 1 and I pray that doesn't happen.

Yeah.. and then they gave him 71 mil guaranteed, 94 mil over 4 years.

Damn, I just saw they also gave up a 3rd and Kendall Fuller for Smith... yeah, nevermind this is bad for the skins.

Lol thank GOD we have Colbert and not some doofus like Bruce Allen in charge. Redskins fans are in hysterics right now

Not just Redskins fans. I live in "Chiefs Country" and woke up this morning to a virtual FB feed MELTDOWN. Chiefs fans are bridge jumping.....wanting Andy Reid fired, giving up on the season next year already.....

Going from the Chiefs to Redskins may not be that big of an adjustment for Smith. Both teams named after Native Americans they must run similar offenses.

Well, cousins was supposed to be a 9er. Looks like he'll go to a team that won't be drafting a QB in the first. With those numbers for A.Smith, they are committed to him. I don't know if the Redskins will draft a QB this year. Maybe next. This means QBs may drop this year. Will the Browns take Cousins? Jets? Quite a quandary.

Chiefs fans are crazy then.they got the better of this deal no question. To get what they got for a player they had no thought of using is a steal in my book...Smith had his best season ever and they get bounced 1 and done from the playoffs by a weaker team. You have seen the best of Alex Smith and you see where they ended up.They should be writing thank you letters to regular season Andy.....not to be confused with regular season Mike

Jets, Arizona, Denver or Browns will sign Cousins. Bridgewater or Keenum end up with one of those teams as well.
By draft time, there might be less teams interested in a 1st round QB. Will make it tempting for Steelers if one sits
there they like when they pick. I have seen several mocks that have the Steelers taking Jackson in rd 1. Slash II for
a couple years.

Good deal for the Chiefs. They better hope Mahomes can produce over 16 games. Not sure what this does for the Redskins. Smith is an above average QB and he will win games. I don't know enough about the makeup of the Redskins team to comment on how this impacts them.

Espn just reporting now, Alex Smith to Redskins. I guess this tells you what they think of Kirk Cousins.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...de-quarterback-alex-smith-washington-redskins

I think Cousins is probably a top 10-15 type of QB in the NFL, not worth the 2018 QB tag amount.

In 2018, Alex Smith will earn a base salary of $14,500,000, a roster bonus of $2,000,000 and a workout bonus of $500,000

This is a lot cheaper than Kirk Cousins who if tagged would cost a lot more

Cousins has been more than happy to accept nearly $44M in salary over the past 2 seasons, and one would think he’d be quick to sign a 3rd franchise tag, set to come in at $34.4M in 2018.* All this would mean is $78.3M across 3 years – 2nd only to Matthew Stafford’s current $87M 3-year plan in Detroit.

We'll see who signs Cousins in free agency, but my guess is it will be a lot below the tag amount.

Well, they now have 14+ million in cap space, so let see who they sign and how their 2017 first round pick plays before we judge.

A initial step back for sure, but possibly two steps forward is how I see it.

Smith is the Tomlin of Qbs. Looks good until it matters and has some head scratching loses along the way. Had Ben packed it I wonder if the Steelers would have been interested.

I was thinking Denver would be in play.

I think Smith gets somewhat of a bad rap. It's not like his team has been a heavy favorite and he has lost games for them.
KC has merely been in the hunt and hasn't upset many playoff opponents.

Don't forget Foles. I wouldn't doubt the Browns look into him. Young, proves he can play and is looking for a starting gig. Will not break the bank like Cousins.

Smith just doesn’t have the killer instinct. He will always be ‘efficient’ and grade out well but he will also leave lots of big plays out there. The chiefs started out hot but then their offense bogged down because Smith doesn’t attack downfield enough.

You are on a dead end with Smith. Unless he landed on a team with a great defense where he could win 20-17 every week, he’s not winning a super bowl.

Chiefs put a heavy investment in Mahomes. Time to find out if he can play.

Chiefs also got a really good CB. Could really help the defense. Add Fuller, get Eric Berry back from injury, and a healthy year from Justin Houston and the defense could be much improved with a good draft and offseason.

If we take jackson in the first i will flip. I do not think he will be a good NFL qb, Ben is coming back, and our defense needs help
