Less than a minute into Sunday's game at Heinz Field, Vontaze Burfict kicked Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Roosevelt Nix with both feet, raising the possibility of yet another suspension for the Cincinnati Bengals linebacker.

Nix had blocked Burfict into a pile on the second play of the game. While on his back, Burfict aimed both his feet at Nix's face mask. He appeared to land a glancing blow.

Line judge Mark Perlman was close to the play but declined to call a penalty (NFL rules allow for an unsportsmanlike conduct call for kicking an opponent, "even if no contact is made.").

Although a penalty might have been in order, typically a kick would not raise the possibility of a suspension. But Burfict has already served two career suspensions for late or illegal hits; each came in the first three games in each of the past two seasons. Burfict also has been fined more than $800,000 for rules infractions.

NFL policy calls for a substantial escalation of discipline if incidents continue. The policy states that: "A player who is a repeat offender should expect more severe discipline, and fines third offenses and beyond in the same season or based on prior seasons' violations will be established on a case-by-case basis, and may increase substantially." The NFL office hasn't been shy about suspending players this season.

Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan served a one-game suspension for an illegal hit on Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams. Oakland Raiders tailback Marshawn Lynch, meanwhile, is appealing a one-game suspension for leaving the bench area Thursday night and making contact with an official.

Honestly I saw it and didn't think anything of it. Looked like Nix may have stepped on his legs accidentally in the pile and Burfict shoved at him with his feet like "get off me". Certainly didn't see anything fineable here...or even penalty worthy really. And I despise Burfict as much as anyone else trust me.

Just hope that they don't look at Alualu putting his knee into the back of Dalton's thigh....did not seem accidental from what I saw. You usually don't fall down like that, other than in professional wrestling.

He tried to kick him in the face.

If this was a first or second offense I'd say a fine is ok. I've lost count of Burf Defects classless actions on the field. His track record would indicate he still hasn't learned a lesson. He should be suspended for the 2nd Steelers game this season after repeated questionable actions in games vs Steelers

I thought BirthDefect was on his good behavior today.

Burfict kicked Nix in the head, smacked Nix in the head with his arm, and smacked his teammates hand away from Nix when Nix was giving the guy props after making a play. Burfict brings nothing to this league.

It doesn't belong in football, and it's specifically what the league is trying to get rid of. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a fine. If he's suspended, it would be a 1 game max, though ti would be poetic, if he had to serve that game suspension vs the Steelers.

I saw those as well. One time Berfucked sort of pushed at Nix and missed and then pushed again to make contact. I think Nix was trying get up after the play. Whatever, I'm sick of the refs not throwing flags for that kind of ****. Just makes him continue doing it. If he gets flagged during games his coaches/teammates would probably get in face.

No suspension for him this time..... if any pkayer ever gets seriously hirt by him id sue the league for repeatedly giving him the benefit of the doubt....

Just the kick itself only warrants a fine but as someone said, Burfect is on probation. Any act like that should land him a suspension for multiple repeat offenses. No excuse for the league to let him slide on that. He's lucky Nix was pulling away or he would have kicked him harder. He certainly was trying to.
