DeBustro and Villanueva

I smell taint, yinz didn't wash did you?

DDC looked horrible last week for sure.

And yet, PFF still has him rated/graded as the best guard in football right now.

I hear ya. I haven't been impressed with DeCastro but don't call myself and o-line expert so I don't say much. He seems to get called for a lot of penalties.

I am also not seeing any improvement from Big Al since last year. He's still getting beat for sacks on a regular basis. Last week it looked like he just stepped aside for the one sack.

Decastro is widely considered one of the best Guards over the league the past couple years by opposing players and coaches. Doesn't mean he can't have a couple poor games like anybody else.

Ya, I always see those ratings and scratch my head. Does it take into consideration penalties?

Castro & Pouncy have been holding their own and I think Villi will come around real soon. It seems like this OL has regressed. I wonder if it's conditioning / work ethic / bait & switch tactic......... It seems like they aren't working as hard at it as last year. Maybe this protest is a factor or maybe it's taking way longer to get going this year than in the past. Maybe they believed the provado of them being the best and haven't thought they need to work as hard??? BOTTOM line is we ONLY go as far as this OL goes and with Marcus back into the line up I'm thin king we will see some pretty good improvement urgently. BELL better take them all out and buy them some gloves................

Honestly, I just don't think Ben is getting rid of the ball quickly enough. If that means our receivers aren't getting open then we need to change up the routes and they need to get open. Its a combination of things. The line can't block forever. We need to snap the ball, have Ben drop back and get rid of the ball. The playground stuff doesn't need to happen every single down.

As silly as this may really sound, in the early part of the season, I half figured that it was them not wanting to work hard enough to block for a Le'veon Bell who's offseason is well-documented. Can't show up with us in camp, and work towards one goal together? **** it, were not going to put it out there for you. However, you can't just "switch" things back on, and perform at such a high level whenever you feel like it. Hence the struggles. Is it a stupid notion? Probably. At least it should be because you'd never expect a professional to act in such a manner. However, is it really that far fetched? Considering the issues with Bell in the past. Whatever the **** it may be, hopefully they figured it out, and we see our team finally come to life this Sunday. All eyes are on them right now.

Didn't the first thread with this title get deleted? Coolie needs to step his game up.

These guys aren’t “professionals”. Professionals at what? Playing a game? About 75% never finished the college education that they were receiving... for FREE. The average age is 26. Would you go to a 26 year old accountant? Doctor? Lawyer? Hell no!
Just because they are in the league doesn’t make them professionals at any thing. They ARE athletic. Very athletic. For the majority, that’s all they will ever be.

To be a professional you must mentor a culture of professional behavior; reward professional attitudes. The attitude of organization before self, doing the right thing even when it is the hardest to do. Establish a strong core of ethics. Strive to ensure we are doing what is right for the organization and those who rely upon it, and that we trust in our leadership. Understanding, communication, and professional development. Approaching organizational issues with a fair approach as to not ultimately hurt the organization and those who rely on it. These dudes do not do that. The NFL does NOT do that. The NCAA definitely doesn’t teach it either. They reward the complete opposite. Monetary success is not a sign of professionalism either.

My point, don’t get caught up, or tailor expectations, by the loose use of the word “professionals”. Some of those OLinemen will let you down and be exactly what you fear. Petty, angry, and bitter persons over a “star” doing something that they perceive hurts their chances to win or make more money.

If you want to see sports professionals, check out the NHL.

Okay, I need to kick the soap box under my bed and get to sleep. Chip, this isn’t directed at you! Just an annoyance that really “grinds my gears” and I tend to vent. It’s football, not cancer research. I wish we put that kind of attention and money towards cancer research. Oh well, night cap has fully kicked in and it’s bed time.

Maybe, I should probably go and see a “professional”. ;)

Lights out!

Supply and demand. Revenue generated. They deserve their money. We dont know the demands these guys put on their bodies to play this game. And thats just training. We are know seeing ans hearing the effects from playing this game. As long as the money is being generated they deserve as much as they can get

yeah, decastro is going to risk his future earnings because he's holding a grudge against the team running back, makes sense.

Jesus, the **** that I read on here. . . .

Then what is a Professional athlete? MLB, NBA, NHL, FIFA all use the term for their players.

They are professional in their skill sets. Doesn’t mean they are in their non-skill set. Which is wide ranging.

Someone being paid to play that sport. That’s all that constitutes “professional” in sports. We consider them professional because they get paid an income, they have professional training, they have sponsorships, and they are a step above amateurism. They certainly do not work a nine to five job and though they do get recruited themselves, the athletes do not do the actual recruiting. They are not managers and do not have upward growth as they acquire tenure.

Professional athletes do not meet the standard definition of professionalism.

College athletes are amateurs in the eyes of the NCAA and they use that as part of their justification to not pay them. If they did, they would be professional athletes. This used to be the case for Olympians before 1992.
