I know we love hitting in Pittsburgh but.. that? That was completely unnecessary, dirty, dangerous, and exactly what needs to be taken out of the game.

I really hope the NFL takes a long, hard look at a suspension here. I'd really be looking to make an example of Trevathan on this one. These hits have to go, and there need to be consequences to deter this type of thing from happening again. If they want to suspend him for a really long time, I'm totally okay with that.

That hit was extremely late and extremely dirty. He was stopped and teed up for that dude and he took a completely cheap head shot. If that doesn't bring a suspension, I don't know what should. And, then the ******* continues to talk smack well after Adams is laying flat on the field. At least 4 games for that hit.

Has he been in trouble before for late hits?

I don't think the hit itself was late since the receiver wasn't down, but you simply cannot hit in the head.

I don't recall anything with Trevathan as a late/cheap hitter...but I don't think that matters anymore to the league

He completely T'd him up. Not sure if the whistle blew or not but that was as cheap and dirty a hit I can remember seeing. He was stopped and going to the ground. He lead with and jumped toward him with his helmet right to his helmet. If the NFL was ever going to make a statement about cheap shots, this is it. It's not like you had to watch it again at full speed like some hits that are tough to tell. The play was obviously over (whistle or not) and he T'd him up. Brutal hit. And, as I said, the ******* kept jawing at about it afterward.

If Shazier got fined $25k for his hit, this hit is off the charts.

Pretty rough to see he went out instantly. I don't know about suspension, but definitely big fine incoming.

That was a hard hit. But I dont see intent. Whew that sound was tough to stomach

Trevathan should miss as many games as Adams will, and should also pay a huge fine. At least 6 digits - but not to the NFL. to a real charity.

He got jacked up

yeah he did!

more importantly in this game did u see the Packers open it up in all the 4 and 5 WIDE! formations?

No wonder they won going away....

I don't see the intent either. In super slow motion it looks bad but watching in real time Adams was in the process of being wrapped up and still fighting for yards as he comes in to make a hit. Adams was more upright as Trevathan starts to make his hit and milliseconds before the contact is made, Adams leg gives out and it becomes helmet to helmet. Looked like he was going to hit him in the shoulder if not for the last second dip by Adams. I'm not blaming Adams either, it's just one of those unavoidable plays...it happens...it's a contact sport.

Clearly leading with the crown of his helmet is a no-no so I'm not against the flag based on the rules but I don't see how it was a "dirty" play...unless that's what classifies it as dirty. Adams broke like 3 tackles in the process as he's fighting for more yards, you can't just assume the guy is going to go down when he's still standing and fighting for more when no whistle was blown. Just ask the guy who had Vince Young wrapped up for a sack and let go when the play wasn't even over.

The NFL will use this hit in their highlight videos to make money, while telling everyone it is wrong to hit like that.

How could anyone not see the intent? I'm all for big hits, but you can use the crown on f your helmet to a guy's face. It's not like he tried to put his helmet on the ball, he went right for the guys face

I watched the first part of the jacked up video from about, the first top 5, none of those were helmet to helmet they were all clean hits.

Guys gang tackle all the time in the NFL, and in some cases players will even hold a guy up so someone can come along and knock the ball loose. In this instance Adams was still fighting even though several guys had a hold of him. There is no way of knowing Trevathan's intent and he did lead with his head, but I doubt he would try to smash his helmet into Adams helmet on purpose. Smashing your own head against someone else at full speed is not good for your head either. I am thinking he mis-aimed himself or Adams bench down at the last second causing the terrible collision. I would be fine with the NFL suspending him, but I do not think it is a clear cut case. As for the celebrating that was definitely bush league.

Yinz are right it is really difficult to tell intent. And he denies intent. And we may see it differently, but my eyes definitely see him charging straight ahead and going straight crown of helmet to face. So I guess we'll never know the intent for certain, but the result was one of the ugliest helmet to helmet collisions I've seen in a long time. And yes I miss football too, I miss hitting, but hits like THAT need to go.

he's never gonna admit intent to something like that but that **** was dirty.

If Vontaze Burfict made that hit, would you interpret it differently?

At the end of the day, his "intent" was to hit the receiver as hard as he could when the receiver was clearly held up and not going anywhere. His "intent" was to launch himself like a missile into the receiver's body. He went crown-first. Now whether he meant to nail the guy square in his facemask or not? Who can say. But he DID mean to spear the **** out the the receiver.

If we're talking "intent", I think we can pretty clearly see what his "intent" was.

His intent was obviously to hit a defenseless receiver that was wrapped up and to hit him in the helmet, with his helmet as he launched at him. If he isn't suspended, his fine better be at least 10 times what Shazier got for a 1-2 play where there was no intent whatsoever.
