Art Rooney II Releases Statement

Tomlin was not looking for "participation", he was looking for CONFORMITY.

I posted this in another thread, but I think it 100% applies to Art...so I will repost it here. If ANYONE in the Pitt media had an ounce of balls to actually ask tough questions instead of kissing ***, this would be the question asked directly to Art:

What owner, coach, president, GM, business owner...etc. leaves a decision of this magnitude that directly impacts the image of your team, company, organization...etc up to the employees to decide how they want to handle it? When your team is a direct reflection of yourself, who in their right mind leaves a decision of that magnitude up to their employees to figure out or vote on?
If this REALLY went down the way they are all claiming it is a major cop out by Tomlin, Rooney, and Colbert as a way of taking no responsibility or accountability for their actions. Any smart CEO would consult with their legal team, PR firm, HR, and Community leaders to figure out how best to address the situation. Once that is understood, the CEO, HR Department, or a combination of them prepares the company directive from there. So either the entire Steelers management team is inept beyond beyond belief or they did have input and directive on what was happening and hid behind the "players choice" line.

damage control, nothing new to see here

It's sad that we are so over sensitive anymore, they were on the field weeks 1 and 2, Trump made his comments, now they want to stay out of the entire thing and suddenly people think they hate the military or veterans? Are people that dense? I'm just curious, all the people saying it's a slap in the face to veterans and military people, do those people stand on Sundays when the anthem is being played? I bet not.

That's not a legit question because the NFL is not a regular business, It's a cartel. Without the players you have no business. If it was any other business you just fire the employees and get a new bunch, can't do that here. So of course the players have input, add to that the fact that over 60% of the players are African-American and you have to be sensitive to the situation.

The statement Trump made about SOB's was a racist statement that's why the owners have to be sensitive, make no mistake. When the so called by this president "anti-American people" are people of color, they are SOB's. When they are white Neo-Nazis running over innocent people with cars then some of them are "fine people." This president is a racist...again make no mistake.

That is not the only thing at play nor is it the most important thing. Money is the most important, and Shannon Sharpe nails it in this video. When Trump was scapegoating hispanics just like the Nazi propaganda in Germany circa 1930 used to do to the Jews, it wasn't a problem for them. When he insulted women and showed what a sexist he is, not a problem. When he insulted the Khan family, (a gold star family) in a true anti-American act.....not a problem.

Now as Sharpe says their "conscious" is suddenly moved, what a joke. Thank God the Rooneys are Democrats, they can sleep well at night knowing they didn't give a dime to the racist turd destroying our country from the White House.

No matter the reason, they ****** up. They lost fans for the NFL and they lost fans for the Steelers. The team really needs to just shut up about it because some of their comments since they did this are making it worse. Leave Rooney's "apology" as the last thing any member of the organization says about this and make sure every team member stands for the anthem the rest of the year. That is the only way to make this sort of go away.

The majority of Americans do not agree with the players kneeling for the anthem.

Actually in polls more than 50% agree it's their right.

Actually in polls more than 50% agree it's their right.

78% Steeler fans didn't like the protest per poll.

But it is all done now.

I think the fans need to move past this. I mean take whatever stance you want but move past it.

I have a plan in place for their bullshit on TV, and really have moved past this all.

Actually in polls more than 50% agree it's their right.

But it doesn't mean they agree with it just that they have the right to do it and to face consequences. I agree they have a "right" but so does their employer and the paying fans. Sort of a bullshit question with too much ambiguity.

This was sent to me and I was able to hit reply.....So I did.

Seems the Steelers must be receiving a lot of negative feedback from Steelerland. Damage control after the fact from players and now Art. I don't think this demonstration BS went very well Sunday between Steelers and fans. Rights and Unity this week so what next. The President if you like or not pointed a real issue with players and demonstrations. He has the same rights to speak as players feel they have. The players flaw it hits to many other sectors of this country when some still believe in America and the flag. The Steeler player took it on themselves to disrespect one of their own, instead of being men and standing up to all the followers they put themselves in some bad light from many. Tomlin comment about expecting unity not sitting so well and this coming from a so called free speaking individual in Tomlin. Respect they want and showed none especially at a field named SOLDIER FIELD.

Please explain to me how calling individuals who kneel during the national anthem SOB's is racist? insensitive? Yes. Racist? Hardly.

damage control.

it is so sad that we have reached the point where an Army Ranger has to apologize or explain standing for the anthem

No kidding. Al's statement made me feel worse about what happened last weekend. Art's statement did nothing for me...

I know it means nothing to nobody but I really don't feel like watching Sunday's game and could care less if they win or lose. This whole episode has brought reality to the forefront. I think the NFL thinks they have becore more important than the Country and the way I look at it, Country comes way before football. If we didn't have one the other would not exist.. If they want to show their disrespect to the country then its time to take a break until they can come back to reality. Plenty of things to do to take up that time, I could take the wife out to the movies, go for a walk, go fishing...etc. etc

Not sure I'd go that far but I think they are making poor choices to appease to certain political groups.

Agreed...

My wife tried to get me to go fishing for flounder Sunday on what was a beautiful afternoon for it, and I chose to stay home and watch that debacle!

From the first minute I saw 78 standing by himself to the final 75 yards of the Bears cramming it down our throats for the win...It was the worst Steeler Sunday I ever spent in my 47 years of watching them! I was literally sick to my stomach!

She came hope with 8 fish (one flounder) and a told you so grin on her face..

no one stands up in their living room before kick off during the national anthem.

I don't think Shannon Sharpe or Skip Bayless should be considered in the same sentence as the social conscious of America. They are using a platform to speak their opinion. He would never admit it, but he's glad he didn't have to make that choice when he was playing. He did become the spokesperson for Lewis (a guilty member of a homicide incident) during Superbowl week, so he enjoys hearing himself on sensitive topics. He has the right to form an opinion, but in no way is he speaking for others. Skip......well, he's just trying to stay relevant to sell more of his books.

Burn some ******* flags next weekend. Don't puss out now NFL. . Bring it. You let this **** show roll. You want to mix politics with football. Let's get it on. Who cares about money right? Make your stand and keep to it.
