Because of the magnitude of this possibly, I believe it deserves its own thread. Mods feel free to move it.

Kevin Colbert attended pro day at UNC and sized up Mitch Trubisky. I'd call this a GM doing due diligence for all possible scenarios come draft day.

Perhaps Ben has one foot out the door?

They do their due diligence every year. This really means nothing. If Ben did tell them he is done even after this year or next, they would be looking at all the QB's this year.

Colbert's time is valuable, and no fan or writer here really knows Ben's intention.

I'd say this is a bit more than due diligence this time. Once again, Ben is leaning toward playing in 2017.

Can you hear the train coming yet? I'm glad Colbert can.

it's not that crazy that the steelers could take a QB. If Ben is seriously thinking about retirement then he may only be playing a few more years. I don't think anybody in this draft is ready to start but there are several development prospects.

The needs are at OLB and CB. But those positions are deep and it is very possible that all of the first round grades at those positions will be gone. Same with WR.

The Steelers are in the rare situation where they have no needs at OL or DL. OL is weak in this draft anyway. Just think how many players that crosses off the list.

If the steelers are high on Trubisky or Watson, it's possible they will be the best player available at pick 30.

if Watson or Trub fall of course they'd be good drafting option and the Steelers would be fools not to scout them. Even if it were for trading them next season for an early 1st

Hopefully he was there to see Switzer.

where does it say Colbert liked him??? maybe he went and thought the kid was flawed.......

I think it is part of being prepared. Never say never, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Salute the nation

Due dilligence on Colbert's part, just as Haley was at Notre Dames pro day. If a trade scenario comes up at 1:30, I'm sure they would like first hand knowledge if the player they are potentially giving up is worth what they are asking for in return. 2018 is the target draft for the next QB imo. They may add a mid-rounder this year to push ZM or push him out the door. Nate Peterman would be my preference IF they HAD to but I'd rather not. The Wyoming QB might be the guy next year.

One thing I like about Kevin Colbert is that he doesn't pick players based on emotion. God help us if you were GM of the team. Pitt has put some great players in the NFL sure, but .. you honestly prefer Peterman over Kizer, Watson, Trubisky, hell even that kid from Virginia Tech? Homer pick

I don't live anywhere near PA and don't follow the program. Strike one. Plus the sentence before mentions a mid rounder. Since when will those 3 QBs be available in the mid rounds? Strike two

I think trub and Watson will be long gone before we pick. Kizer will also most likely be gone and I am not sold on him anyway. Unless ben told colbert this will be his last year, I don't see us taking a qb in round 1. Even if Trub happens to fall past say #12 or so i don't think the Steelers will sacrifice the picks to move up with all the defensive help we need.

1- You believe all your started threads are full of magnitude ...otherwise why start them

2- Colbert is doing what he should be doing. Nothing more nothing less.

3- Perhaps? Hasn't he pretty much told us this already with his comments ..Dude has taken a pounding he can't last forever

looks like Lynch will be beating us to Kizer, coach.
Lynch is at Notre Dame's Pro Day and the 49ers have the 2nd overall pick. Looks like they'll take Kizer at #2 because Lynch is there. He was mentioned as being there by Heath "I can bench press a Buick" Evans and this was not refuted. Therefore, it is a given now that the 49ers take Kizer at #2. Prove me wrong.

I think Trubisky is the best QB in the draft. I don't think the Steelers will take one in the first round though.

if watson or trub are there, i wouldn't be mad if we took them. if we trade up, i'd be annoyed.

North Carolina has a number of potential draft picks that the Steelers might have interest in.
Nazir Jones is a projected solid 3-4 DE and they have 2 RB's TJ Logan and Elijah Hood that will get drafted.
When there are 5 or 6 guys to look at, it's worth the GM's time.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the Steelers will meet with Pitt QB Nate Peterman before the 2017 NFL Draft.

well, there's this, too. . .

Peterman would be a pick I could see them going for. I doubt they would be looking for a franchise QB in this draft but they could be looking for a solid No. 2 or 3 guy to compete with Jones. Peterman would be a later round pick and who knows, they could get lucky like Dallas did.
