William Gay

He didn't have a good AFC title game, but not a bad year. He isn't expensive and is going nowhere unless we find
more CB's better than him. Kind of a dumb thought thinking he will get released.

The fan in me wants Gay to return and be a contributor on defense. The GM side realizes that Gay is probably not going to be effective much longer and will be looking in another direction. I also have the assumption that Gilbert isn't the answer and wouldn't count on him for anything for the upcoming season.

Gay is of the age when slot corners make nice safeties... there is a good reason to move on from willie

That was an interesting read. I get the impression he would feel the assault on my neighbors after the game was not warranted.

Gay is a smart player and often times at hig age that's all it takes. With the youngins stepping up he either takes a backseat on the roster. Or just cut him and move on

A good roster can upgrade at his spot............and

WR
TE

I am thankful for Gay's contributions in the past. He had a great run his second time around with the Steelers. Time to get on with your life's work Will.

I don't think he was all that good when times were good, Mitchell either. IMO both are journeymen at best.

If we keep him, he has to transition to safety. I think we need to draft anotger cb in rds 2-3. I'm not even sold on Cockrell. I think Cockrell is a #3 or 4 corner. Want to see what Gilbert can do.

Gilbert ...I dunno ...I mean the talent is there the draft spot told you that much and yes I'm sure the Browns wrecked him...but I am not holding out much hope on this guy (sure hope I'm wrong)..He wouldn't be the 1st very talented guy who just didn't get it and won't be the last

I'm absolutely cutting Will Gay as one of my first offseason moves. He did a good job for us over the years but his time is in the past. Time to move on

Yah make sense to fire Lake after the job he did with Davis and Burns. Makes sense.

And Gay got a lot better after the arrival of Coach Lake and spending a year with the Cards. Remember they've been trying to draft better CB's for about ten years and Gay is the best we've had after Shoeless Ike and arguabley more consistent than Ike.

Personally I think Ike was very much underrated. He had a two year stretch where he was shut down. Just couldn't catch the ball or he would've gotten more recognition.

Gay has def been much improved and turned into something no one ever believed he would. He sucked when he first arrived but he really developed into a solid player. If he had a better surrounding cast the last 2-3 years he probably would've looked even better.

I think you are thinking of the word experience Justin. Gay got better with experience, not much of a shock there. Just like your comment about the job Lake did with the rookies. How hard is it to take two very high draft picks and make them football players. Every now and then you'll get a Jarvis Jones in the mix but the law of averages says they should be good players once they get some time on the field.

Danny Smith needs to retire and the jury is still out on Lake, Peezy and Butler.

Jus sayin

To further bolster my opinion, I submit an article just posted in the Steeler Depot about our secondary's lack of preparation and their propensity for confusion. I can't, in good conscience, put this all on the players.

What? Tell two rookies they Have to play because the team is so shallow at their positions? That they haven't drafted a decent cb or safety in years? That all their picks for these positions haven't done **** but get paid.

What job has lake done since he has been here? Look I loved lake as a player.. absolutely. I'm looking at what our dbacks have done since 2011. We got better at the end of the year,, Apparently... But then totally lost their minds against the ***'s.

Who in the **** did Lake have to work with????

Cortez Allen showed great signs then lost his mind. His mental toughness isn't something Lake can fix. Thomas is always hurt. Keenan Lewis put it all together but it was too late. Lake, LeBeau, Butler and co were able to get by with Antwon Blake for two seasons. That should say something there. So finally Lake is given a first round CB and a second round stud safety and he's able to mold them into starters by mid season? Not to mention Cockrell going from cut before camp in Buffalo to two year starter... But ya, he sucks.

I just think some of yinz discount what coaches actually do. If the players do well it's cause of experience. If they do bad it's because of poor coaching.

Your article sounds to me like it says a rookie cb was confused and a safety bit on a flea flicker. Coaching? The next game Brady confused a whole new set of db's for even more yards.

Huh? You're talking about a 32 year-old player.

I think gay was ok, but he can't match up against guys like eddleman. We already dumped gilbert and Cockrell was pretty terrible toward the end of the season. If we let gay go then we will be hurting.

Gay was masked a little last year due to the POOR play of Blake. He wasn't targeted hardly at all and why would he have been. Gay is replaceable and it's a hell of a lot better to release a year early than a year late. In William's case I think he is in that window. We shouldn't be in this predicament but due to **** drafting / evaluation here we are keeping what we have.
