Would the 2017 AFC Championship game be different if Cowher was the coach?

I checked and Cowher has a winning record vs. Belichick including a win in the playoffs. Cowher also has a head to head margin over Belichick.

While Cowher's teams sometimes failed in the playoffs, they were often handicapped with poor QB play. And he was 5-1 with Ben.

Hard to say what would happen since it has been 10 years since Cowher was a HC in the NFL.

In terms of physical defensive presence maybe. It's hard to say. I think Cowher would adapt to the current nfl's play now. But the result is what it is

Well, this is a hypothetical, suggesting he was in the NFL. His record when Ben as his playoff QB ( 5-1 ) and vs. Billy boy ( more wins than losses overall, plus a playoff win over ) are impressive.

I just think Cowher handed his team better, including his divas, and offered the type of enthusiasm and sideline one on one coaching that could fire a team up.

The biggest team distraction I recall under Cowher was Eric Green who made a rap video and failed drug tests. Eric Green was quickly 86'd.

No. The Steelers just don't have enough good players on defense to stop Brady. And Cowher would not be out the catching all the dropped balls either. It was not the scheme so much as the execution.

It was the scheme. Brady ALWAYS rips up a soft zone, so why keep playing it as often as we did? >>>> Ask Tomlin.

Would the outcome have been different? Who knows. But I will concede, we would not have played the scared, pansy type defensive scheme that we saw last week. Just sayin............

Really?? We wouldn't have? So what was the difference when we played them in 2002 and they didn't pass the ball all nite except it wasn't the AFC championship. Or the 2004 AFC championship when they were up 24-3 at halftime and scored 40 something. Weren't we playing lebeau's son blitz scheme then??

Here's the problem: how much of his record against Belicheat came when he the cheater was the coach of the Browns? From 2001 until Cowher retired, I can only remember Cowher beating belicheat exactly one time; 2004 regular season. We then proceeded to get completely destroyed by them in the AFCCG. Oh, and has been mentioned, we lost to them in 2001 too, in case you forgot. The Steelers losing to the cheats is bigger than just a Tomlin thing.

They kicked our ***** in 2001 too. The final was closer than the game really was. I think it was 24-7 at one point. What about the 2002 season opener? When the cheats and Brady threw the ball like 30 straight times. Yep, Cowher definitely would have made a difference vs the cheaters. He had definitely proved that in his career.

I am more concerned with what are they doing in the offseason to fix so we don't see another shitshow like that one.

Scheme/D coach/whatever just fix it

ahh, but you see, if Cowher was here the players would be more better!!!

So, you are saying a player cowher put in that position hampered his results? Odd, eh? Before Ben was forced upon him, Cowher lost the AFCC championship to the*'s. After, he ....lost to the *'s in the playoffs. Huh.... That loss was 27-41. The mighty cowher defense that won the SB the next year allowed the *'s to score 34 points (Ben threw a pick-6).

an incredibly poorly coached Tomlin (redundant, I know, right?!) allowed 36. Holy mackerel, two whole points!!

Only if you don't look at some details, I guess, or take it as blindly has you seem to have done.

Is this true? According to Wikipedia, Green was suspended 6 games on Nov 9, 92 season. pro Bowl for the 1993 season. The steelers offered him a $10m contract for the 1994 seasons. He took a lower annual contract for 1 year so he could be an URFA the next year. He only left because MIA gave him a $12m contract for 6 years.

doesn't sound like Cowher did ****.

The 2002 game was when they exposed our zone D so badly, everyone was saying the *s had the blueprint to beating us

Cowher's defense started this ****. But to be fair, I do think, all things being equal, he would have figured a way to adjust to it eventually

You are not going to out scheme the Patriots. Either because they are the smartest ever or because they are cheating scumbags. You have to out physical them up front. That's why the Giants gave them fits. The front 4 on defense was able to win and harass Brady. Not what they did in the secondary. Until we get the pass rush from four down lineman we will have trouble against them.

The defense needs to morph into what is needed on any given Sunday. Always keep them guessing as to what is coming. It's either that or we have a front 4 who are unstoppable and corners who can ***** slap wideouts at the line. A ball hawk safety who can hit like a freight train (all legal soft&gentle like)would be the final exclamation point.

Comparing the two coaches at this point is like apples&oranges. It's the scheme itself that's worn out. Well at least that soft zone bullshit. It's cost this team 3-4 trips to the super bowl at least. The offensive game plans leave much to be desired too. If I see another 40 yard bomb on 3rd &1 next year I'm going to lose my mind. We had better be up by 21 or more.

We need to keep that nasty hard hitting **** your world up attitude and figure out a way to not get flagged when we knock someone's manpon out.

.....it's going to be a long long long offseason.

Go falcons!

My biggest gripe with Cowher was the conservative turtle ball (playing not to lose). BUT, he had **** for a QB for most of his tenure. He did loosen up a bit after Ben got here. I would have loved to seen Cowher stick around the past 10 years.

Probably not. Despite the total turnover of our roster and coaching staff and the near-total turnover of the Pats**** roster and coaching staff except for Belicheat, Br*dy, and Ernie Adams over the last 17 years, they own Tomlin and Butler just like they owned Tomlin and LeBeau just like they owned Cowher and LeBeau.

This is ******* retarded. Hello, Cowher lost to the Patriots in two AFC Championship games. Did you happen to watch those?

Not only that... think of the players we had on defense in that '04 AFCCG. 15-1 with probably the best defense in the league and the Patriots offense scored 34 points. Different players... different coaches.... same result. Brady is the Steelers daddy and that's all there is to it.
