Let's see you have Ben, Brown, Bell, and a powerful line. Yet we kick too many field goals in the red zone. Personally, if we are a yard away a QB sneak is more successful than those fade route in the corner that requires a perfect throw. Yet we keep trying those fade routes.

I saw little or no play action used at the goal line, and giving it to Bell more often...three times in a row if necessary would have yielded better results.

Riddle me this, how come we are so very good at 2 point conversations ( mostly passes ), but can't seem to punch it in often enough on 1st and goal?

Does Haley have a separate set of plays for the 2 point conversion? Where is the disconnect here?

The eternal riddle. Even Ben and Ramon Foster were puzzled by the call.

We haven't been that good at 2 pt conversions as of late

We haven't been that good at 2 pt conversions as of late

about 1/2 of our 2pt conversion attempts this year has been from the gun, that makes **** for sense. Part of my problem with Haley's offense is that my 14 year old son can call out run plays vs. pass plays just by looking at the formation 90% of the time. We can gouge someone for 70 yards rushing down the field and NEVER take advantage of a play action pass to capitalize on their respect for the run...blows my mind. Sometimes our play calling sets our players up to fail more than it helps them. Second, why is it that when we go no huddle and Ben is calling the plays do we seem to move at will and score at will and mix up or play calls and utilize play action more frequently?

I would have QB sneaked or spread them out and ran.

Play action pass, one of the 3 TE we had in on the play would have been wide ******* open in the corner of the EZ.

remember, after the 2014 season when you said the RZ % must improve? It went from 52.7% that year to 60.7% in 2015 to 59.2% last year. Seems to have been an improvement, no? From 18th in the league to 12th.

From 20th in the league in G2G to 2nd in the same span.

Ben's a big dude. It was 6 inches. Worst possible call was tight formation with no fullback and running the ball from a deep set.

Running off tackle, even worse.

My beef with Haley is that we run far too many "low percentage" plays in the red zone. You don't see it nearly as much between the 20s except for the occasional bomb on 3rd and short. But in the red zone, we throw way too many fades which are basically wasted downs. We attempt way too many potential TD passes to unreliable targets, and rarely utilize James or Brown in these situations lately. We seem to run very little play action which basically every team will run at the goal line to free up someone for an easy pitch and catch score. It's almost like Haley wants everything to be at the highest degree of difficulty when he should be devising and calling plays to get us easy scores when we are in close. I just don't get it, truly

The Steeler players are masking the Coaching issues IMO. If Ben were to retire and AB traded/signs somewhere else, this team would be in a world of ****. Tomlin is a younger Marvin Lewis and I'm afraid the Steelers will keep Tomlin on board much as the Bengals are doing with Lewis. Without Ben and AB the Steelers will have Years of playoff berths while the team self destructs and causes us all to drink ourselves stupid.

So what youre saying is- if we lost our two best players, our team would suck?

What an astute observation. lol

Where were your questions about Haley's offensive play calling when Ben threw 12 TDS in 2 games? The issue is peronnel. When the core WRS and TE and RB and QB are available than the entire playbook is opened up. Brown, Wheaton, Bryant combination were missed. Coupled with limited game and practice availability of TE Green. Our young talented WRS of Rogers, Ayers and Coates aren't ready to replace the consistency or production of Bryant and Wheaton.

You don't see certain calls, formations, or looks simply because the personnel haven't earned the trust or provided the consistency. About 4 or 5 TD passes were dropped in the last 2 games.

What the Falcons did this season offensively is what Pittsburgh has been doing the last 2 seasons.

I have no problem with Haley, he has to use what he's given to work with.

I blame the front office for not getting Ben MORE weapons!

We need another #1 WR, a true #1 TE and maybe another #1 RB. Make them UN-STOPPABLE!

We have another receiver that may be #1, but he was more concerned about cronic than he was about playing ball. If that is behind him then there is your second #1 WR.

Green seems to be a panic move after Miller retired. James actually developed as the season went on and had a solid AFCC. Bring Green back next year, if he has injury issues in pre-season then cut him and move on. Green was solid when on the field this year.

Why should we waste money on another RB when we don't ever switch it up. D-Will was solid while Bell was injured once Bell came back D-Will was an afterthought. I don;t want to pay for a #1 RB to have him watching the season from the pine, especially when we have a capable back-up in Williams and even Toussaint.

I want top rated gamebreakers from the draft on offense - stop wasting high picks for a defense that will never be enough to stop anybody in the new NFL

Bell won't last forever - I give him maybe 1 or 2 more good years - Tomlin ran the wheels off him

Overwhelm defenses with FIREPOWER! Not limping home if one guy gets hurt.

18th of 12 with our talent is underachieving! It's the play calling.

Wait...you're citing Ben's 12 TD's in 2 games, and then turning around and mentioning Martavis Bryant, who didn't even play this year???

LOL...12th missing your second and third WR, part time with the #1RB out and part time with the #2RB out. Ok.

I know you don't care about pithy little details, but you specifically said "but can't seem to punch it in often enough on 1st and goal"....Note that we were 2nd in G2G......

I threw in the vast improvement in RZ% (around 7%, I think) as a bonus, mistakenly thinking you would realize that, once again, your premise that Haley is missing something somewhere is false. I didn't go back to look to compare 12th to, say, 8th to see how many trips that team got and made or what their ratio was.

OK, I did, afte rall. The *'s at #8. 38-60 at 63.3%. a whole 3% more than the idiot Tomlin/Haley combo. That would have been two more conversions for the Steelers. How many INT's did Ben throw into the EZ?

Of the top 5 in RZ%, 1, made the playoffs. Of the 11 teams in front of the Steelers. Four made the playoffs. Top 5.

D-Will was actually injured most of the time Bell has been back.

They were so good at two-point conversions because they practiced it so much (7 shots). The success rate declined as the offense went from a bunch of talented players to a bunch of borderline roster guys. While these numbers should be better, I have a bigger concern with why the home offense (and Ben) are All Pros and the road version acts like a bottom dweller.

Red Zone offense wasn't very good before Todd got here either. Hasn't been good since Bettis retired really.
