Get used to playoffs as a happy goal under Tomlin. We have a great O-line, HOF QB, best WR and RB in the league and a serviceable D. This is the best Tomlin can do with it. As long as we put up with players dropping the mic when they get a first down, and celebrating when they make a tackle after an 8 yd gain, and for that matter posting private locker room ****, we'll remain an immature team unequipped to deal with the grown ups. I try to imagine Chuck Noll reacting to a guy making a big deal out of a first down or a good tackle. Then I try to imagine Joe Greene reacting to some kid getting all giddy after making a hit after a big gain.

Tomlin sucks. It's true.

We went a step further than last year. He turned this team around. He is not going anywhere after getting us here so why keep bitching. He is our coach it is not changing and we are better off than all but two teams in the league at this point. We have a very spoiled view of what you can expect for success in this league (without cheating). I am embarrassed by some of our reactions to this team sometimes. I for one while upset about once again losing to Belicheat it is no different than under Cowher. The are are cheating Achilles heel.

I do miss the Steelers when they played pissed off and angry. They should have been hitting those little ***** coming right off the line. We played soft and weak. The Pats receivers were open ALL. DAY. LONG. No fear and they had their way with us. Blount rode 3/4 of our D like a rodeo clown. SMH

I will say this.. Tomlin did his best coaching this season as HC. He did a tremendous job keeping the team together and turning around the play of the young guys. That being said, today was a terribly coached game. Him and the rest of the staff were absolutely overmatched all game long, no scheme changes, nothing. Butler deserves a lot of blame... did they do any film study at all, like what does Tom Brady shred on a weekly basis? Zone and everyone knows this.. what do we run 90 percent of the game? Zone. Run fire blitzes, send all 11 guys.. do anything different!

I agree with all these points on the surface.. But it completely ignores how we played in the game today. The game plan played directly into Br*dy's hands. We ran the same defense he's shredded since 2002. We did the exact opposite of the only thing that actually works against them. So yeah, we made it to the conference final, yeah we're better off than all but a couple teams, but our coaches were flat out embarrassing tonight/this week.

I don't think he is a bad coach in terms of getting a team prepared mentally. I think he does a lot of good things. He needs tacticians as coordinators though. This **** was the checkers champ of Missouri vs. A Chess grand master.

Couldn't have said this in any one of the other threads? Just wondering what's so different about what you posted here than is being said by some in other threads?
Oh well, time to turn attention to the Pens and the draft.
What positions do you think Tomlin will be looking at as important this year? Any ideas as to who they might target? I only ask because you and I both know that he'll be back next year unless he decides to hang 'em up. Haley will too and probably Butler; although I think they probably should at least look to see who's available as far a DC goes. Butler was supposed to bring a "fresh" approach and it seems that other than the bull crap he trotted out at the beginning of the year with no pass rush and a plethora of DBs, he just brings the same old Lebeau schemes ...

I think that time he coached a SB win is as good as it gets with Tomlin.

I am not saying the coaching was not a problem tonight, but it has always been a problem against this ******* team. As far bad schemes I will put the onus more on the defensive scheme. I think the offensive scheme went out the window when Bell gut hurt and was still not horrible considering. Defensively we **** the bed scheme wise but if we had gone man it might have been just as bad. We needed to just mix it up every play and confuse the **** out of Brady but I don't think our youngsters were ready for that.

We had young guys out of position all night on defense and young guys dropping balls on offense. Coates should not have been on the field since he hurt his fingers.

I think you missed my point. It doesn't matter who Tomlin drafts. This is as good as it gets with him. He's not a coach who can take us to the Super Bowl.

Offense still needs to get better in the red zone, Bell being out didn't help but it's iffy when he's in too. I saw a stat that said for the playoffs Ben has 2 TD passes and 4 INT's.
Butler needs to be fired. The Pats**** entire team and coaching staff has turned over in the last 17 years except for Belicheat and Br*dy and they still beat us the same way with the same things.

I think you missed my points. And those were:

1. Everything you're saying is/has been said in any of the other threads following tonight's game. So why start a new thread?
2. Tomlin isn't going anywhere unless he decides to leave. At least not this year after taking the team to the AFCCG
3. Butler sucks, as do his unoriginal rehashing of Lebeau's schemes and game plans ... If there's going to be a change among the HC, OC or DC, it will probably be him (wouldn't count on it though)
4. Given all of the above, I figure we might as well turn our attention to the draft.

I'll second this. While I think we as fans can feel secure that we will win a playoff game or two every few years, finish w/9-10-11 wins, MT and staff are good enough to *at best*. George Karl was a very good coach, but when it came to being better? Talent would only get him so far. You cannot win w/talent alone, and the Steelers DO have talent. We all can agree on that, esp when comparing the teams that are left. Coaching IS the fine line.

Well, the NFL spotted those ******** an extra day and a half of prep time, so I guess six days wasn't enough for the Steelers to come up with something other than a vanilla zone defense that Brady shreds every single time.

Can't say I'm surprised.

This is why the Ravens always give Patriots a fit or beat them. They go in there pissed and play physical from start to finish. This current Steelers team just looks scared and plays so cautiously on defense. Just rush 3 and drop back everyone in to a soft little coverage.

I'm not sure anyone has said it like I did. This is the best you will ever get from a Mike Tomlin team. I think that is important to realize as we all talk about how good or not good he is. IMO this is as talent rich as this team will get, and this as good as Tomlin can coach. This is it. Get used to it.

IF Tomlin lets the O and D coordinator do their own thing, perhaps getting rid of at least Butler might be good idea.

and why can't CMT see that? Honestly, it doesn't take a great coach to figure it out. The Ravens have built themselves to beat us. We should have the game plan to F the Pats up, too.

Eh, we'll see. Not saying you're wrong. Not saying you're right.

I do know that I wasn't impressed, happy or satisfied with the game plans that were trotted out tonight. And for once I'll have to agree with Top, the vanilla zone defense that ALWAYS gets **** upon by the Cheats was a terrible idea. That's ultimately on Tomlin for signing off on it. But, if I'm Tomlin, I'm looking to replace my DC if that's the best he had for me to sign off on. Also have to question why, if that WAS Butler's best, Tomlin didn't change it his damned self. Either way, I think Butler is back and that's too bad.

Same with Haley and his ego driven plan to keep Ben in check until Bell went down.

Dude. Enough. We disagree. IMO we have had enough talent to beat NE for a couple of years now. We have a coach who enables immature behavior and is unable to make them reach their potential. It has nothing to do with anything else. Put any of these players on the Patriots and they will kick our ***.

Even if we had the talent, we'd still be in this **** zone defense looking like idiots

Exactly why Butler has to go.
Is it Butler??? Or Tomlin, same defensive approach when DL was here, and at what point in the game does Tomlin step in change the game plan
