Tomlin sucks thread 11/6/16

I have no problem admitting it. My problem is that Ben Roethlisberger apparently isn't held to a much higher standard, apparently.

Let me ask this question, when Peyton Manning was consistently hit in the pocket, he developed happy feet and became rattled. When the Colts continued to call for 7 step drops against teams like us that had a great blitz back in the day, was it Mannings fault for not executing or was it the coaching staff for setting him up to fail? I will hold Ben to a higher standard, but I think it is apparent that when we adjusted our offense to spread the field and quit getting into 3rd and long each drive that all of a sudden Ben looked much more on his game. Coincidence?

The problem is that yesterday wasn't the first time that he played like garbage on the road.

What about when our defense craps out and puts us in a hole so that the offense has to become one dimensional. Pretty much sums up the Eagles game where we made Wentz look like Unitas.

too many issues from one game to another, which can usually be the case when a team slides in the wrong direction

only one way to change a trend

change up the approach or change up the one who doesn't change up the approach

Yep I love him just like loved the coach before him.. I held the players to higher standard then just like I do now. Cause you know I'm consistent like that. Not different standards for two different coaches. I've always said players play coaches coach. But now I should feel different why? Why should I change the way I've always felt. Bad coaching to me is running a scheme on offense or defense that your players aren't physically or mentally able to execute. That is bad coaching..I don't see that here. They executed it just fine when they were 4-1. So excuse me if my consistent outlook on football that players play the game. I'm sure you are one off-the-wall parents at Pop Warner games and high school games riding the coaches *** all game

You're seriously okay with the defensive scheme the past few years? With the very rare blitzing and constant 8-10 yard cushions? And as you just said yourself, the scheme is the job of the coaches. I gotta tell ya, our scheme on defense flat out sucks, and it has for at least a few years.

Bad coaching is developing and signing off on bad game plans as well. If you think the offense that we put out on the field yesterday looked like the same offense we played when we were 4-1 then I don't know what to tell you. Trying to repeatedly run on first and second downs from a 3 TE set was NOT something we did when we were 4-1. That whole game plan looked like one that was in place in case Landry was in at QB. It was a game plan of playing it safe and keeping the ball out of the QB's hands so he wouldn't make a mistake. The problem is that the Ravens continued to double cover Brown, and sold out to stop Bell up the middle. Why does it take Tomlin and Haley 3.5 quarters of football to recognize this? When a team stacks the box you offset it by going to high percentage quick slants and even screen passes to clear out the box. The Ravens have been awful in pass coverage all year long, why did we wait until the 4th quarter to go to a 3WR set and spread the field out? This team wins in spite of the coaching staff, not because of the coaching staff.

What was different about it?? We are running different plays? If they are doubling Brown that's up to the person throwing the ball to look elsewhere isn't it. The ******* guy is a franchise QB he has to be told to look elsewhere seriously??? When the Raven stack the box Ben can't audible?? Ben himself said they stuck with the running game because they felt they were abandoning too early in other games. This is something they all discussed prior to yesterday. They are calling the same plays game plan specific of course. The issue is the execution

I can't say I am happy with Butler

or the ST coach or Haley

see that is just it too many issues

all points back to one man

They have been playing off coverage here for twenty years !!! Do you not remember out after out being completed against Rod Woodson and the rest of the corners. ******* Jimmy Smith didn't that **** countless times. We have always played tackle the catch in the burgh

Same here, I thought they should have brought in fresh blood for the defensive coordinator when Lebeau left. Butler has been a failure and needs to go as well. Haley I'm still on the fence about, but wouldn't be upset if he was sent packing. But all of these guys, like the scapegoats who were let go before, work for Tomlin. He is responsible for them, though he never takes personal responsibility. Honestly, I'm getting more pissed at the Rooneys even than Tomlin. Obviously, he is incapable and/or unwilling to change, so the continued acceptance of this garbage falls at the feet of ownership.

Show me one game where we lined up in a 3TE set and tried running the ball on first and second down for 8 out of 14 possessions. You do realize that you are saying that if our coaches call bad plays then it should be Ben's job to correct and change that? So if Ben is mightier than all of our coaches why do we need Haley or Tomlin. It was pretty obvious when Ben called the play sin the no huddle in the 4th qtr. that we started moving the ball. Question, what exactly does Haley or Tomlin actually do in your estimation? Since they are not responsible for anything, what do they bring to the table?

Not to the extreme cushions we do now. I like how you conveniently didn't address the lack of blitzing. Under Cowher, we were Blitzburgh. Do you honestly think the defensive scheme was the same then as it is now? Seriously?

thing is you had the pass rushers to make it work back then

now, not so much

oh no they got rid of that ping pong table a long time ago

these coaches coach

Butler has already said why they aren't blitzing as much. The rookies are playing and they didn't want to put that on them so early. I mean seriously if you want answers all you have to do is search for them. Butler went into detail on the lack of blitzing.

If you are not going to blitz because you don't trust your rookies then I have 2 questions:
1. Why are they on the field if they cannot execute the scheme. (remember, it is the coaches job to have the players execute the scheme)
2. Why are you still playing soft cushions with no QB pressure so the QB has all day to pick us apart (Wentz, Brady, and Tannehill) Think about that, Carson Wentz and Ryan Tannehill.

We have ran out of three TE sets all year long. We had no FB. We've been it doing all year.. bad play..let's see you calls a play not knowing what the defense is in. You get to the line of scrimmage and see they are stacking the line. Yes your QB can then change the play.

Responsible for anything nonsense again. What do we do in practice all week? Practice the plays we think will work against the Ravens. On Sunday we call these plays. Or are we practicing one set of plays then on Sunday calling a whole set of different plays.

And for the record I already posted that we went no huddle in the first half too. 12 plays that resulted in three and outs. What happened then?

So you're okay with his explanation? I know he gave one, it's a stupid *** explanation, and it proves my point that the coaching staff is failing us. So we're not blitzing because we're using rookies? What rookies? Hargrave? What other rookies are getting ample playing time in the front seven? And the lack of blitzing is putting MORE pressure on the rookies (Burns and Davis) on the backend. So his explanation is completely stupid! At least get rid of the damn cushions if you're not gonna blitz. Anybody who is watching the Steelers for the past few years knows this system sucks. The responsibility for a failed system would ultimately fall on the head coach, wouldn't you agree? If you're saying Butler should go, I'm with you, but it won't make a damn bit of difference unless Tomlin goes too.

EXACTLY!!! And if you're going to blame drafting (I know that will be the next excuse), fine. I'm all for holding Colbert accountable as well, but it's been well documented that the defensive genius Tomlin has a ton of say into who's drafted (which a head coach should).

just another snappy excuse from a team that realistically has no answers run by a coach that

has no answers and offers no solutions

but pointing fingers in other directions

Why are on the field?? Who else is going to play?? People ***** and moan that we draft guys and don't play them. Now they are playing them and trying not put too much on their plates and there is still bitching and moaning.

it will be until there is winning

which with this talent is expected more than what results are seen

which again falls back to the leader of the pack

Outside of Hargrave, the only rookies getting ample playing time are in the defensive backfield. Wouldn't you agree that common sense dictates blitzing more would help the DBs, especially the young ones still learning?

Yes I have no problem with it especially when I thought we should be able to get pressure with Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt with out exposing ourselves to big plays.

For example not sure if they blitzed but I do know Burns was in press coverage on the 95 yard TD. Care to talk about that.

1. Show me one game where we have run over half of our plays from the 3TE set. You can't because we never have.
2. If you practice a game plan that sets you up to fail what does it matter if you practice it all week, just to say you went thru the motions? Haley and Tomlin have to be able to adjust when the game plan is not working. Waiting 3.5 quarters of football to see that you are failing is beyond comprehension.
3. Ben was not calling the plays in the first half, re-watch the game and watch him looking at his wrist coach before approaching the LOS, Haley was still calling the plays.
4. Do you think it was in our game plan to wait until we are down 21-0 to go to a 3WR set, spread the field, and attack the weakness of the Ravens? If not, why would you wait for 3.5 quarters to make that adjustment? Because Ben said so in his press conference? When has Ben ever thrown anybody but himself under the bus in a press conference?

When you blitz you leave the secondary especially the corners on islands with no help. You think they are ready for that.

it is said a way to cover for a weak secondary is a strong pass rush

I think some missed the memo.
