You can tell he was overmatched playing CB but that experience will only help him in the future when we ask him to match up with some of these TEs. But you can see when he didn't have a WR to his side and he had TE responsibilities to his side on run plays he was a missle against the run. That is what he will be doing as SS for us. You can easily see the skills that had him high on our board.

I feel Davis will fight it out with Golden and Shamarko. Shamarko at this point is just trying to make the team IMO. Golden likely wins out early but I wouldn't be surprised if Davis is taking snaps away from him by mid season.

Golden can play FS, that adds value to him and I think Shamarko definitly can't

He's a Steeler and for that reason I'll support the guy. But I was hoping for Vonn Bell if they went safety there. I'd love nothing more than for this to turn into an Eddie Lacy vs Lev Bell situation

Yup, here's the important part:

Watch the film below, and you see his closing speed, the ability to play in space and a ball hawking attitude with physicality to boot. Combine that style with the coverage skills of a cornerback, and you could have yourself the total package in the back end along with Mike Mitchell.

Well, that had to be the worst excuse of "music" I have ever heard. It may have gotten better, but I turned off the sound after the first use of the word nigger, I don't have time for that ****.

A few points.....

1.) MD had one of the dumbest unis in all of college ball.
2.) Why do these highlight vids always have such awful music?
3.) If nothing else, Davis will contribute to ST this year.

Shark is just too dumb to ever play other than ST, and ****, his imbecilic play even on ST costs us flags and yards. There is no way, all of a sudden, Shark will be smart enough to play. He isn't even in the picture, I do not think.

We ready! We ready! We ready! We ready!

I didn't even paid attention to what the hell the "singer" was spelling, just turned the music off; what a piece of **** "song"

I take it yinz doesn't listen to rap?

It's "nigga".

I listen to just about everything. It is in so many songs, I don't really even think about it.

Damn you guys sound like a bunch of old geezers in rocking chairs shooting the **** at a convalescent home. ;) Just turn off the volume if you don't like it. Minor miracle Davis even got drafted after some 20-year old Maryland fan dared to include a rap track on a highlight clip he put together at 2:30 am in his dorm room. Do you guys not watch youtube football highlights? 90% have these types of tracks on them.

So was I, but to be honest, only because I knew who Vonn Bell was, from seeing a bit of OSU. But then I got to thinking about something Colin Cowherd says as it related to USC guys back in the in the Pete Carroll days. He advanced the theory that USC guys are playing with so much talent around them, it kind of makes it too easy. A lot of those USC guys really didn't have great pro careers. I think that every once and again with OSU guys. But now as I type this that really doesn't play out when you think of Heyward and Shazier.

Does that mean they should've taken Vonn Bell?

I think to take Bell you would of had to move Mitchell to SS. I think Davis can play both and so can Mitchell. Bell is a FS type cover guy. A combo of Michell and Davis should allow us to disguise our coverages better because they are interchangeable.

My sense is they had Sean Davis ranked way higher than we think, much like Artie Burns & the CB's. Carnell Lake is on record saying he was their top safety on the board. Presumably, he meant when they made the pick, which tells us for sure they had Davis ahead of Bell. Depending how you want to interpret Lake's comments, you could make the case they viewed Jalen Ramsey as CB and Davis was their #1 safety overall in their S rankings. We'll never know the full story on Burns vs. WJIII, as much as we won't know how they stacked Davis on the board. Without question Colbert, Tomlin, Butler and Lake all liked this kid, given where they picked him in the second round. That's prime real estate. No way they chose Davis that early over Vonn Bell, Simmons et al if they didn't feel like he was the man. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. They took speed, upside and hard hitting over a lesser athlete in Bell. Can't say I blame them.

I had simmons as the top FS after Joseph and neal, Davis has some added value as already discussed

It looks like he may just take Shamwows' spot on special teams. Bye bye Shamwow. Perhaps you can sell rags. Now if this Davis kid can learn what Lake will teach him we may have something.

Shamarko hasn't done anything to even warrant an invite to camp this year. He was bad last season and if not for the lack of depth, they should have already have parted ways. I'll be rooting for him come July and August, but he's been such a disappointment.

thing is with him if a S went down would you be comfy playing him?

I think we all know that answer.

I think this year if you are leaving him on the roster you are sacrificing depth

I just think you don't do that...

Mitchell - Golden - Davis - ?

Who's the 4th S? I agree it's an open spot for TC but Shark has the upper hand, unless a 5th CB emerges above Grant and Grant wins the last spot as a S

Exactly. If you don't think he can play on the field at this point, it's time to move on. It's not like he's a special teams demon either.

Agree Shark seemingly would have the inside track at the 4th spot, but it seems we are at least 3 deep at safety now. Maybe this means we keep Ventrone as a 4th S as he is a ST ace where Shark costs us way too many penalties. Dangerfield looked promising last year as well, maybe Grant emerges to grab a spot there as the CB top 4 are pretty set.. Looking forward to the battle for the 8-9 DBs.
