how? that "hole" isn't filled yet.
You do realize that you're asking Coach a logical question, right???

Well, it isn't like he's going to hit the door...Don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out.
I would expect several better players than Noah Spence will be available at DL and DB when we hit the clock.

The Steelers have to draft an OLB. Jarvis has had plenty of opportunities and while he was better last year, he was still subpar as a pass rusher.
Dupree is still unknown but at least he did show some big play ability. It still remains to be seen if he will be a star but I feel he will at least be adequate.
There are several OLB prospects who will be available in rd 2. If the Steelers get one then maybe you give Jarvis some reps at ILB in camp. Jarvis has good instincts and a nose for the ball. He just lacks the athleticism it takes to be a great pass rusher. I think he could be good at ILB. That would allow them to let Timmons walk and save money with Jarvis in the future.
Who do you think will be around tail end of rnd 2? Just curious to see some of the names you're thinking of.There are several OLB prospects who will be available in rd 2.
That's an interesting thought, Timmons won't be around forever and Jarvis is still relatively young. If the Steelers get one then maybe you give Jarvis some reps at ILB in camp. DON"T pick up year five option, doing that would contribute to putting us "back" into cap hell. We have worked hard to get to cap management that we currently enjoy, so let's keep it that way. Uncle Jarvis isn't going to suddenly turn it on and become a monster. Let him play and show otherwise.
Salute the nation
Like that'll happen. Well, except for maybe the Titans. The down side of that is, because we cut him rather than having his contract run out, we would receive no compensation when he signs with another team.
Exactly. Agree 110%.IMO we should let him play out and not exercise his 5th year.

Not necessarily. If they are looking to play more four-man fronts, maybe they should go for a true rush end rather than one of the tweeners who need to play standing up. Same idea, though.

Not neccesarily. My understanding of the 5th year option is that you can cut the player at any time before the start of the league year and it does not count towards the cap. So we could "pick up" Jones' 5th year option and if he still plays below the line, we cut him without actually paying him a dime of that 5th year. The down side of that is, because we cut him rather than having his contract run out, we would receive no compensation when he signs with another team. IMO we should let him play out and not exercise his 5th year.
The other option would be to extend him this summer. That would be foolish, IMO, unless it was a cheap and short team-freindly deal.
Joe Shobert of Wisconsin is a guy I would look at in rd 3. He was an excellent 3-4 OLB last year.
If he gets injured the entire 8 million is guaranteed.
Fiji,
I have an issue with " his stock is not in the same league as those guys right now " , as it implies it could be. Heyward and DeCastro are much better players.
Jarvis Jones is a first round bust plain and simple. He's not a rookie anymore. By year 3, teams and fans pretty much know who can play and who can't.
I'd rather work on finding a better starter / role player and let him go. Some team will likely scoop him up, and I'll take a 6th or 7th round compensatory pick for the future.
I do like Carl Nassib a lot in round two. He impressed me at the senior bowl, and his stats in a large conference for 2015 are off the charts impressive. He worked out decently. I can see him playing standing up 3-4 OLB, then kicking outside to the nickel or dime, and offer a much better pass rush.
