The question for management and coaches should be: Are we confident that Landry Jones is capable of being the #2 to start the season, can he win us 2-3 games?

This is where you want to be a few seasons in with your twenty-something back-up QB prospect... basically the polar opposite of where we are with Landry.
Brock Osweiler completed 15-of-20 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' preseason opener Friday night.
Osweiler got the start and played the whole first half with Peyton Manning rested. The 2012 second-round draft pick kept Denver's offense on the move, engineering five scoring drives in five possessions including a 17-yard touchdown pass to TE Virgil Green. Osweiler flashed signs tonight that the Broncos' offense would be in competent hands should Peyton miss time in 2015.
this. ..........I think we have seen enough. Cut him now and bring in another arm. At least we can get a good look at someone else just in case Gradkowski isn't ready.
This is a lot of angst over a 3rd string QB. 3rd string, for **** sake.

If this is Tomlin's pet project what does that say for his evaluating talent. The word was Jones was doing well at camp yet in two games he has looked far from an NFL QB. Time to find another project, one that can help down the line.
ok, a better comparison would be Zack Mettenberger, who was a 6th round pick last year. He too is light years ahead of Landry Jones. To be fair, wasn't Osweiler a 2nd round pick?
I will say that Landry does one thing pretty well.. and that is stepping up in the pocket when he senses pressure. That being said.. he still is a 3rd string QB and therefore he isn't very good. That just comes with the territory of a 3rd stringer.
Hell yes I would! As special as Ben is, does that mean we can't have a capable back-up? Why shouldn't the team be able to win games if a starter, even Ben, goes down for a few games? And in a player like Osweiler, you have someone groomed in the system ready to take over down the line. Or if he's that damn good, you have a valuable trade asset. Anyway, holding onto a bottom-scraper like Landry does nobody any good. Just a waste of time, his time, our time, the Steelers' time.
yes and no
I have seen some third stringers drive finishing capable.
.....
Laundry has played a ton vs scrubs this season... he is completing 50% of his pass attempts... he has a paltry 4 yards per attempt. there just isn't anything there to save...cut and move on

Should have signed Tebow...
I mentioned IF Jones was a pet project, as the paper in Pittsburgh mentioned he was having a great camp and was ready for the first game, Jones isn't ready for the second game yet Tomlin continues to allow him to play most of two games . How can you evaluate other players when Jones allows for no rhythm on the offense. Tomlin has kept Jones for two years when I would venture over 90 percent on this site never though he was good enough to make the team last year.
He isn't here to replace Ben-he's here to see if he can replace Gradkowski. Incidently Bruce has a 52% completion ratio and a 5.7yds/pass ratio for 9 years in the league. I'm sure they will be scanning the waiver wire but right now there ain't much out there.
Problem about letting go of guys if they haven't shown much in two years is that you end up losing James Harrison, Cam Heyward type players. I agree that Landry has stuck around too long. Especially on the 53 man roster. All that has been accomplished with him could have been done with him on the PS. That said, no one knows WHO wanted to keep Jones on the roster or why. Maybe he has pics of Mrs. Haley having her toes sucked by Sexy Rexy while Todd watches.
The point that I was making was in regards to the fact that some folks are willing to take anything they hear regarding whichever Steeler/Coach/Management Person they don't like and run with it as if it is truth. Especially if it is seemingly negative. (And, I plead guilty to having engaged in this myself). However, a statement made by a member of the opposing team's media is NOT a valid/sound basis for accepting something as gospel ... Especially when nothing remotely similar has ever been reported by the local media or in any other market as far as I can tell.
