Tonight was his big night. He maybe has a couple more chances in the next two games though the starters are the focus in the third game and the decisions are made before the fourth. He wasn't horrible tonight and he certainly wasn't helped much but what is the point in keeping a back up who couldn't help you if the starter and backup were injured. If Gradkowski can play, Jones should be done. No point keeping three guys when you could pick a guy off the street to do basically the same thing. If Jones had to start for a long period of time the season would be over.

thought he was cut already. Misleading title LOL

honestly though, you could say that about Gradkowski or any other 2nd stringer in the league too

If Ben was injured for three weeks which is the most likely scenario where a backup could help you. More than that and you are ****** as you correctly said. Now Gradkowski has limited playing time, but I feel he might be a Charlie Batch that could win one game or maybe two if the opponents were soft. You couldn't compete with Landry Jones from what I've seen. He climbed the ladder a couple times in the pocket and made a couple throws but he looked pretty bad for most of it. You can keep him cause he knows the offense but he couldn't run it.

He did very little to prove he can be effective in this league.

As usual he was painful to watch. But the TE / WRs weren't doing him any favors either.............

With Gradkowski hurt I don't see Landry getting cut anytime soon. We will be keeping 3 QB's and he most likely will be number 3.

He looked like nearly all the rest of the team bad. There were maybe 6 guys that looked good in the game. If they do not get lots better the steelers will have issues keeping 53.

Some QB will pop up on the waiver wire in a few weeks - in fact, probably more than one - that will be significantly better than either Jones or Gradkowski. Mr. Colbert, please have your telephone ready.

Don't know why he was drafted.

Don't know why he is still on the roster.

There are some players who you could at least justify getting drafted, but this was not one of them. Someone on the coaching staff or in the front office must have really went up to bat for this guy to still be on the roster. Nothing against him personally, he just isn't an NFL quarterback.

The thing that eats at me with Landry is his complete lack of urgency. He's so nonchalant in everything he does, from his body language in the huddle, at the line pre-snap, while dropping back and even throwing the ball. Same thing off the field. He reminds me of Jay Cutler, more than anyone else, with about 35% of the skills Cutler has. Just doesn't add up... I agree with those that say if he wasn't on our team he would be out of the league at this point. Crazy ****. Steelers need to find a serviceable back-up QB in a hurry, and stop wasting their time with a bunch of sub-par stragglers that they run out there for camp and pre-season. Gradkowski's no sure thing either, so Colbert needs to make a move like yesterday.

If Jones and Archer aren't gone before the second preseason game, it's blackmail.

For your 3rd QB do you want a Landry Jones bench backup type or a multi-talent QB you can use to run the scout team pistol read-option offense?

Archer? Gone? Based upon WHAT exactly from last night? The kid actually performed fairly well during the game.

Sorry,

I didn't see any open field speed that he was touted for and he seemed off balance on at least two of his runs. But I'm rock solid on Jones being gone. He had the entire game to prove himself and you could have Devin Gardner at QB and win as many games as you will with Jones. Is Charlie Batch still around?

To his credit that rookie TE dropped an easy catch, run&score. he should be on that juggs machine for 500 balls for that one.

It's pretty clear that having a franchise QB in this league is the exception and not the norm. The talent pool for back up QBs drops significantly. Landry looked like **** out there. Not sure he will get cut but I can't see him earning any PT.

His failure to watch the play clock concerns me. The drop AND fumble by James is inexcusable except he is a rookie. Jones is what? 3rd year? UGH!

From what I saw last night, Jones should be gone. Carry 2 QBs and let Tyler Murphy be your 3rd (emergency) option the way Hines and Antwaan were back in the day. Murphy is at least quick and can make a throw or two. You're not going to look for a whole lot from your 3rd guy...but Jones gives you absolutely nothing at all.

He should be selling Chevy's by this time next week...
