Just read a Steelers Depot article on the type of receiver McCarthy is looking for. Most telling statement was paraphrased " the fastest way to the endzone is the post. Up the seam"
Aaron Rodgers might be the second best thrower up the middle in NFL history and even he seemed handcuffed last year. It takes away the punchers chance in my opinion.

I read it soon after it was out, would have been nice if they added the round drafted to each WR. One of the replies even mentioned it as well.

So they basically need WRs capable of getting open quickly.

This is insane that we have to celebrate this. Kindergarten football we are talking about here.
I don't disagree as without going over the middle or risking the deep shot by vacating the middle IMHO you have zero chance of winning big playoff games. That said we all have to admit that his strategy did well vs. The division particularly the Ravens where the Steelers record would Dwarf the rest of the league.

the moral victories over the Rats are less fulfilling than PO wins and SBs.

I don't disagree. Or even having a real contender instead of fools gold.

That’s the thing, even when they where making a good run (think the season they started 11-0), deep down one knew they weren’t going anywhere.

That went on for 10+ years, mediocracy was king, and Tomlin coached it into his scheme / roster / staff / owner / fan mentality .

Now, we have a chance to leave that kind of thinking in the dust and actually progress forward.

This football team has zero answers at the most important position in all of football, QB.
Aaron Rodgers who will be 43 during the next season is not the answer. He cannot and will not defeat Father Time. He has no mobility and serves as a statue back there and throws the ball too quickly to avoid hits. He brings zero value with return. Washed up and should most definitely retire.
Mason is simply just Mason. Ok as a backup for mop up work and spot starter. Certainly not a quality every game starter.
Will Howard at this point is an unknown but I’m not biting on him. In my opinion I think his future will be much like Mason’s as a backup and spot starter.
The franchise QB is not currently on this football team. That may happen in the 2027 draft and if I were the Steelers, I’d be dumping off some of this old baggage for 2027 draft picks. Guys like Ramsey, Queen, Jonnu, Watt or Highsmith. Move them if you can for 2027 draft capital.
You’re not winning anything this year.

Just the mere feeling of a real contender or s playoff team with a punchers chance. I got fooled again this year. Thought it wouod be a competitive game vs. Houston. I skipped the Ravens year before. Got tix to a comic I really like and knew what that game would look like. Fool me once shame on you.......

It was a competitive game going into the fourth. A couple bad drops get caught early and I still believe it is a different game.

If my Aunt had balls........
Defensively they were in it till the fourth. They did nothing on offense whole game. They got two turnovers in plus territory and got three points. You ain't winning playoff games like that. Saying they were in it till the fourth is the same facade as the rest of the season. If we are playing that game they were an extremely make able field goal from not even playing the game.

Another great post, thank you for all the great ones along the way, you rock.!!!

I read ann article a week or so ago that stated if the Rodgers answer was yes, they would take him back immediately

I hope that was just a “smoke” article, and MM knows enough to go in a different direction.

Maybe through, looking at a 1yr situation………………… I hope that is not the case.

I’m with unloading some top-heavy for 27’ picks.

I highly doubt they move TJ, both his high salary/no trade clause and his “face” of the Steelers would prevent that.

Looking forward to see how this all pans out, way more interested this off-season than last.!!!

It was the mindset our HC went into games with. Try to keep it close and maybe a TO perhaps gets a victory.....every game. We didn't scheme or gameplan to Win...it was just to survive. It has been a sad 10 years of football. Maybe you thought in your mind we actually had a chance to win a SB. I don't even think Tomlon actually thought that. Please stop with the constant posts of.....we were close until ....blah blah blah. You spewed this for years. We all listened. And even agreed at times with optimism. Now it is time to stop and move on. Tomlin has. Now it is your turn.

I am talking about one freaking game that I was at. It was demonstrably a close game going into the fourth. Your diatribe is uncalled for. It was by far the closest we have been in recent games at that point. Then the wheels fell off. I am making no point other than that fact.

Same as I told Still. Being at the game particularly on defense it felt like we could win it. Yes offense was terrible after the early drives. We still had a chance starting the fourth. I am not defending Tomlin or making a judgement on anything. I am simply stating a fact about the game. Good lord people are overreacting.

Ive played in many games, Ive coached many more and Ive watched infinitly more then that. Yes theoretically they were in that game but they were so badly outmatched with Houston's defense to the Steelers Offense you maybe win that game 5 times out of a hundred.

Close doesn't necessarily mean "competitive". The Steelers could have played 8 quarters and not scored an offensive TD. That team, like most the last 10 years, was not built for a playoff run precisely because of the play-not-to-lose philosophy Tomlin infused into every aspect of the organization.

For the last 10 years you have been making these individual points defending Tomlin. . You point out isolated facts defending Tomlin, but leave the "historic" stench of Tomlin's coaching ....unmentioned. Now that he is gone ...at least we won't get your daily/weekly points on Tomlin anymore. So there is that.

I agree to a point but the defense played better than it had in recent playoff appearances. While not perfect even a modicum of offense and we have a different game.

I am not sorry to see him retire/leave. Yes, I was a supporter unabashedly. The offense was terrible after the first quarter. It feels like the drop by Metcalf sucked their souls away. The defense did enough to keep them in it most of the way. I will always wonder what happens if Metcalf catches that deep pass and we get a TD. Maybe we are better off for it as it was the nail in the coffin for Tomlins desire to stay but who knows what happens if that one play goes differently.

It's all good my friend. I truly wished I still had your passion, but the last half decade plus ...it was all sucked out by Tomlin and his bismal coaching. I truly am looking forward to this up coming season.....for the first time in a very long time. Win or lose....change was needed.

Rudy winning the final three games to get into the playoffs, brought a lot of passion out in me.

Once the playoff game started and Tomlin went back to his BS scheme, that tuned me a lot.

Once out of Cowher’s players, Tomlin showed he wasn’t a playoff capable Coach.

There is no defending his 10+ year past PO record.

Some think if a play or two went different, there would be a different outcome………… what about a pleat or two went different for the Huoston team….???

Tomlin screwed the pooch, no and’s / if’s / or butt’s……… unless you count coaching.

Tomlin is gone, close the door and we can move on to better things.
