‘Serial rapist’ Darren Sharper headed to prison after striking plea deals

LOS ANGELES — Just five years from reaching the NFL pinnacle as an All-Pro and Super Bowl champion, Darren Sharper is now likely headed for a lengthy prison sentence after reaching plea agreements in charges involving the drugging and sexual assault of at least nine women in four states, his lawyer said Friday.

The alleged sexual assaults happened after Sharper’s 2011 retirement and followed a similar pattern. In all of the cases, Sharper is accused of slipping drugs to women and sexually assaulting them when they were unconscious or otherwise unable to resist or consent.

He was working as an analyst for the NFL Network before being fired when the rape allegations surfaced.

The guy will be living on the streets when he comes out and will probably do it again. I also would not be surprised to see more women come forward. The dude is obviously messed up.

I don't quite understand our criminal system and all I see from an outsider looking in is the more expensive the defense attorney, the lesser the jail time.

That said, as I understand it, it's 20 years with no chance at parole in Louisiana's state penitentiary which I hear is not a pleasant experience and no picnic. He's going away for a long time to think about what he did.
