Tomlin apparently stated that he is not opposed to moving Mitchell to SS. If that's the case, I wonder if they have Collins in their sights? Is it pre-draft posturing? Thoughts

I've seen Collins being our pick in many mock drafts by the "experts".

Such a move wouldn't say much for Shamarko, but would say much about him. Or at least what they think of him.

landon collins is a ss , probably they are looking at a free safety (harris tartt temple )in mid rounds

Not saying you are wrong, but he did play both safety spots at 'Bama.

Collins has seen action at both strong and free safety and projects as a first-round pick in large part because he should be able to handle either role at the next level. He has limitations in coverage, but plays with range and is an intimidating presence in the secondary.

I'm pretty pissed that Mitchell played most of the season with an injured groin and Shamarko STILL couldn't see the field. Somebody's *** is grass for that. Either Thomas sucks *** or the coaches are being *******. One way or the other we've got a guy with a gimpy groin out there playing in the secondary. If THAT'S our best option we're in deep ****.

That's my .25 cent opinion.

You would have wanted Shamarko to play FS? Or Troy?

yes but is strong vs the run and liability in coverage .. personally i don't like at all collins at 22

I think Tomlin was just answering a question that he was asked. However, if they are seriously considering moving Mitchell to SS, they will need to find a FS; I think Golden is the only other FS on the team right now (?). As you point out, although Collins has played both spots in college, his strengths/weaknesses as outlined in the experts' draft profiles on him, point more towards a SS.

i wouldn't ruled out to play cortez allen at free safety .. with the play in front of him he could be better , as a corner he doesn't have the speed and while seems he can cover te he has problem with any wrs . i don't about tacling aspect

cause we are so loaded at CB that we can send Allen to SS

I think Mitchell would fit better at SS, problem is not loving the FS's in this draft............

This mismanagement of personnel has Tomlin written all over it. We pick up Mitchell and all he does is commit personal fouls. Great FA pickup. Shamwow can't beat him out even when MItchell has a groin injury. Excellent draft pick there.

No wonder LeBeau left for higher ground.

Sharknado was injured some of the season too, just saying.

As far as SS & FS,I don't know the answer, but troy isn't it. (bless troy for what it's worth with a thank you) Our FO has done some very different picks, as to thier imeadiate needs. Hard to guess. The first and second round picks NEED to be "HITS", more so than anything lately.

Salute the nation

Our defense looks to be in deep **** right now. Jarvis proved he doesn'r belong in the NFL. We resign Harrison at 99 yrs old. Worilds leaves the game entirely. Troy is done. Mitchell is a personal foul expert, Shamwow can't beat out an injured player. No clear replacement for Worilds. Williams is only serviceable.

No team is afraid of the "Steel Curtain" anymore. Right now it looks like soiled toilet tissue. GReat job Tomlin. Keep up the keen eye for players and devlopment! Yoou the man.

I would have saved this epic rant for after our first loss of the season, so you get a "D" for execution but a "B" for content, lol

Move Mitchell to SS and then draft Collins to play FS? Doesn't make sense to me. Now if we are talking about adding a ballhawk like Holliman, then I can buy that.

shamarko is a bust, how could he not got on the field in nickel and dime sets its not like troy showed he was covering well, maybe butler will give Shamarko have been a chance, troy in the dime should have been at ilb at most. But DL lovefest with troy was never gonna end until Art ended his tenure and gives DB's drafted a chance to play early rather then year 3 with Butler taking over and likely greater input from lake and porter for LB's.

I know we have talked about this guy in other threads but I am very high on Holliman, yeah he can't tackle but he is a ball hawk. I also like Pewitt, Randall and Drummond. I think the SS class is deeper then the FS class, I am not in love with the FS prospects but I feel we could grab a guy the can get turnovers.

I won't be pissed over the pick of Collins but he is not in my top 5 guys I want in the 1st round. I think moving Mitchell to SS and having Shark is a better option for us with so many needs.I am thinking 1st round is going to be a CB or OLB, jmo.

Mitchell to SS?

Not opposed to this. Wonder who would take over FS then . . .article suggests it would be Shamarko.

Mods, i didnt realize the Landry Collins thread was on the same subject. Please feel free to merge . . .

Thomas was also injured a good bit and was supposed to be learning Troy's position I thought. The jury is still out on him. At this point if a corner or two is drafted and Allen turns out to be a good safety we still filled a position of need or maybe two with that move. It might actually be rather interesting as by picking two corners high the odds of getting one that pans out is better. If it turns out that Cortez improves and can play corner as well we just became stronger. Not saying that will happen but right now it looks like the team needs at least one corner, one safety, and one outside linebacker if staying in the 3-4. Being able to hit on all three this year will be tough.
