As we continue to debate whether Lenny Pickett was a wise 1st round draft pick or not ...
His struggle to read defenses and coverages may be on him or it may be on the coaching staff that cannot aid his development. We have no way of knowing which one. of both, of those are having the most impact. We just see the inability to do so.
But the accuracy issues are hard to put on the coaching staff. He regularly lacks the ability to put the ball where it would appear that he wants to put the ball. He's the only one making the throw.
As for the draft pick value, what other draft saw the first QB off the board at the 20th pick? I think that means that 19 other franchises did not see him as a franchise QB. Most years we see the top quarterbacks off the board well within the top 10 picks. I think he was likely viewed as a Round 2-3 talent (by all teams) but taken earlier than warranted because: 1) the Steelers failed to address the position until Ben retired; and 2) the hometown connection.
